Can 3rd generation clothing be used with later generation figures?

Specifically, genesis or genesis 2. I would settle for victoria 4

V4 I believe had a V3 pose to set her body to fit Gen3 clothing, as did M4.
Genesis can wear Generation 3 clothing if you have this: http://www.daz3d.com/gen-3-iconic-shapes-for-genesis

Genesis 2 figures I don't think have a Gen 3 clone, so autofit wouldn't be possible. You can autofit to Genesis though and re-save the clothing as a figure/prop asset and then autofit to Genesis 2 using Genesis as what figure the clothing belongs to.

If you try autofitting Gen3 clothing to Genesis2 figures leaving the figure as 'Unsupported', the results aren't pretty.

My conversion products don't support it. It's the most difficult because they're the most different from the weight-mapped figures.

The answer, like everything unfortunately, is 'It depends...'

You can convert from 3rd Generation figures to Genesis, and if the conversion works well enough for you, you'll be happy to know that converting it from Genesis to Genesis 2 works pretty cleanly.

There are a few problems to look out for. Under-breast crunch/collapse is one of the most annoying, and while it's less common now-a-days with Gen4 conversions, it's a staple of Gen3-Genesis conversions unfortunately. Also things that were straight edges often get warped as they try to follow the lines around a character. Usually this isn't too bad.

Attached is an image of Jordan's (an A3 character) top and pants converted to Genesis, then up-converted to G2F. The pants were autofit to Genesis, worked well enough, and then autofit to G2F. The top I autofit, didn't like how it came out, and tried again with the transfer utility. In the end, it didn't really do any better. I then used plain autofit to take it from Genesis to G2F.

The characters, left to right, are Genesis-based (Wednesday), A3-based (Jordan), and G2F-based (Ginger). Ignore the footwear, they just seemed to need it...

So is it possible to reasonably well fit m3 clothes to G2M? I'm not too familiar with the more then just the surface functions of Daz3D

IF you own this : http://www.daz3d.com/gen-3-iconic-shapes-for-genesis then you can Autofit M3 clothing to Genesis (original). You would need to then save that converted clothing yourself, and once again, use Autofit to fit it to Genesis 2.

    EDIT:

Sorry, I thought you were the original poster. Autofit can work well, but it cannot be guaranteed to produce perfect results.

I got lost in the thread, I was not sure who I was answering nor if it had been answered. Just more cooks in the kitchen then. You folks have it handled. No idea why I popped in now.
