Using background Mil Environment etc in iray

in The Commons
I'm sure I saw a way to use things like the Cyclorama and Mil Environment backdrop in iray but I can't find it. In particular I was looking for how to make the backdrop in the Skydock show up when rendering in iray.

Just drop the cyclorama/Mil.Env in the scene? They are kind of like billboards. Sometimes I use the Uber shader to convert them to Iray (and then make some adjustments), sometimes I do not (and let Daz do the automatic conversion).
I don't have the Skydock, but if the backdrop is just an Obj, you should be able to use it like any obj. (I don't think Iray does "visible in render (yes/no)" like 3DL.)
They're working fine for me out of the box, just load a scene:
But maybe you meant using other "textures" on them?
Huh. Then it's just the Skydock one that doesn't. Weird.
It renders black. I was sure it was just a plane with an image on it....maybe it's not?
no, it was the backdrop in the skydock that renders black in iray. The reason I asked re the mil environment etc is that I was positive I had seen something a while back, where someone was saying tips on how to make them show....I THOUGHT it was 'emissive' but I'm not sure. But maybe they were saying skydomes....oh gosh, I think I've confused myself.
But the skydock backdrop definitely doesn't render in iray.
I find that sometimes 3DL surfaces can render black in Iray for some reason. Did you apply the Iray Uber Shader to it to convert it to Iray?
Well it does have complex geometry, so apparently not. But you could render it and then use the render as backdrop.
yes, still renders black with the uber shader.
ok so if I apply the daz uber emissive to it, and change the base colour to white (from black), then it shows! That's the 'emissive' bit i was remembering.
Sure you got the lights set up correctly?
The backgrounds in Skydock load with a diffuse strength of 0.0, but an ambient strength of 1.0 with the same bitmap (3DL, of course), so it won't show up in Iray. The on-the-fly conversion doesn't seem to recognize ambient as maybe an emissive surface, so it all comes out quite black. Set the diffuse to 1.0 or convert before and make them emissive.
Ah, this is what I do:
Here is Daz original Owen and the quirky prop DAZneyland (https://www.daz3d.com/dazneyland)

and change the emission colour to black (from white) and it makes it more noticeable.
Eureka!!! (it'll be blurred in dof anyway..LOL)
I lika dark grey because the background always shines a little light.
Very nice! I'm glad you got it figured out. I didn't even know it came with that backdrop. I thought it was just the single prop since it doesn't list a backdrop in "What's Included". The conversion turned out nicely. :)
I always forget it's in there! :)
