Hi I just need mat preset files for daz studio 4.6 ,not poser user.
but in my content library of daz studio, there are many product,
(for V4) which have two type files for same material. usually mc6 and pz.

I do not plan to un-install them, but In smart content, I may only need one of them.
then in short , mc6 and pz,, which is better for ds 4.6? :roll:

    I'd probably use the pz2 for DS. The mat will still need tweaking either way though.

    If the File has a Scroll on it it has a Bootstrap that loads a DAZ Studio version, often that is a tweeked Pz2 file. So check the code and be sure.

    Thank you both,, :)yes, PZ2 seems have a little square mark,,and I can find ds script files,
    in same directory ,, then it auto-adjust mat for daz studio?
    (may not need many tweaking as defaut?)

    Then,, I may only need to use PZ2 (usualy in pose section,,in poser format)?

    I had not thought,, mc6 and pz2 actually set different mat in daz studio ^^;
    seldom use these type mat files,,
    but today I check them,,it seems slightly different,,

    it means,, ds auto adjust mat for some PZ2(with ds scripts) , but not adjust mat for mc6?

    but I know some product, mc6 with dsa,,, @@;
    about this case,, I need to use the mc6 @@;?

    The Scroll means it will auto load the proper file for you. In DS it loads the DS material settings and in Poser it just defaults to the poser version. That is why the bootstrap is there.

    thank you, so as to say I may use only pz file with scroll ,
    when there are both pz2 and mc6.

    You can still use Poser mats, you just have to be aware of what to change. I saved this post from adamr001 on adjusting Poser mats for use in DS from the old forums before they were taken offline:

    Specular Maps - They don't get applied by default

    Ambient Maps - Again, they don't get applied by default (although these are pretty rare)

    Specular Settings - Color, Glossiness and Strength all need to be adjusted. I tend to use "common sense" here. If something is primarily green, I use a near-white-green as the color. Glossiness controls the "size" or "sharpness" of the specular response. Higher values have smaller appearance. Strength controls the intensity of specular response. Think of specular strength like the "distance" from the light source. 100% would be practically touching the light, while 0% would be so far away the light doesn't even shine on it.

    Ambient Settings - Often stuff comes in with 0,0,0 ambient at 100% value. Change the strength to zero unless it's supposed to "glow black". Tpically, you only need ambient when you WANT a glow... like I use an ambient color of 255,255,255 and a strength of 100% on the candle flames to make sure they're nice and bright. CAVEAT: Some vendors use ambient colors to adjust the color of the surface.

    Bump / Displacement - Remember, poser is unidirectional on these. Flatten the minimum value in DS to 0. I typically set strength to 100% and control the appearance by using the Maximum value. Figure you'll need to jump this pretty high on many things. (Like it'll come in at 0.010 and you'll want 0.20 or more).

    Default Shader Lighting Model - Everything comes in as plastic. Make good use of the Skin, Metallic and Matte presets as well. Note that the Skin preset tends to add a tinge of pink to the surface. Counter-act this (if desired) by shifting the diffuse color towards blue.

    ><; My mistake,, I may use only >>> I prefer to use only

    thank you vascania,, I know we can use mc6 too,, ^^;

    then usually need to adjust them for daz studio if there is no scroll (ds script files to auto load setting)
    as Adam001 discribed.
