Problems using Carrara under MacOS X Mojave

I am trying to use Carrara on iMac Mojave 10.14.6. It is very sluggish and creates animation file sizes > 1Gb that should be no more than 10 meg. Some tools like the camera Panning tool take 20 to 30 seconds to activate. Does anyone here use Carrara on an iMac with Mojave OS?

barrie,
I'm still using Carrara with Mojave 10.14.6 on two machines, a 2012 iMac and a 2018 MacBook Pro. I don't appear to have the issues that you are seeing. I don't do animations, but QuickTime is still 32 bit. Try rendering to a series of image files instead. As far as the panning tool, you could turn down your screen rendering settings.

Many thanks for your feedback and suggestions. It is encouraging to hear you are using mojave on an imac, mine is 2013. I did render a series of images (gif) with no size problem but didn't know how to convert the gif to animation. I will percivere with the gif approach.
Thank you
just render to png or jpg series
gif is very limited in colour range
use Hitfilm Express to import the image series and render a mov file etc
I just rendered a quick animation to nmumbered jpeg and used the old QuickTime 7 player to import a sequence of images. Works well. but QuickTime 7 player isn't around anymore. I don't use Hitfilm, but it is available for the Mac. I would try Wendy's suggestion.
Thank you Wendy
I got HitFilm express and imported a sequence of .png files. This is a very elaborate app and it will take me ages to read and learn how to use it. Will you please give me some pointers.
In HitFilm: After importing the image files I assume I have to play the animation before it can be exported. How do I get the sequence to play like a movie?
Brian
I have Quicktime 7 and tried to open the .png sequence but I got a movie controler for each image. I think you must have Quicktime 7 Pro.
I better link a video as they explain it better than I can
are many of them
start at 1.23 skip waffle
watch them all here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GoUtH6tHj8&list=PLFqEKMQyy86wtsad-UkY4anWttXHhKmGk
this is the best I can do
I use the Windows version so hope the same
import image sequence
drag to timeline
set contents to length right clicking on top bar
go to file export contents (may need to click bar again if greyed out)
browse to where you want it exported and name it
render by clicking export at bottom
when it turns green remove finished tasks don't click remove tasks!!!
what I was working on when I read your post, is DAZ studio iray a composite of about 8 layers
BorisFX Particle Illusion smokes and Hitfilm fire
Wendy
Many thanks for your quick tutorial. Big help..... I didn't drag my images from the media panel to the timeline. Also thanks for the link.
Your project looks very interesting and impressive. The lighting and smoke create a very atmospheric scene.
HitFilm is very advanced for my project (designing Kinetic art). I just want to convert image sequences to animation. QuickTime 7 pro would have been ideal but no longer available as noted by Brian.
it can be as simple or as complex as you like
I render just straight series too
on my other PC because I can only have one instance of Express I have to use Blender
I can also tell you how to use that if you wish
but
it is Blender it's uhm different
Yes. I have the pro version. I paid for it a hundred years ago.
Conclusion: Thank you Brian and Wendy for your help and encouragement. I found a surprising solution. Sequenced images can be converted into a movie with photoshop (CC 2019). Carrara creates the sequenced images on my iMac Mojave 10.14.6 with no problems.
well I cannot render video on either of my PC's with Carrara either so use image sequences
its a codec issue, fix one break another
How do you change the animation timeline scale?
in Hitfilm?
there are movable tabs and you can dock and undock stuff
a simillar annoying UI feature to DAZ studio where things dock in unhelpful ways
I reckon it's a QT4 framework thing as lots programs do it
I am continuously going back to default to fix it
no doubt there are better ways but I would need to actually read the Funning Manual
while I use Hitfilm I am actually not the best person to ask as I fumble a lot too
Dartanbeck is your man
Opps, Sorry Wendy. I meant the timeline in Carrara. It currently shows 6 seconds how do I change it to 60 seconds.
oh the framerate has a dropdown list if you click in that box
The frame rate only changes the fps, the time scale doesn't change.
Currently searching the manual.
I am a bit confused as to what you want
the length of the animation you can do a few ways
in render room type in length gives the exact result
dragging the yellow triangle that at default is on 4 seconds is another way
to reduce the stretch click in the tab that zooms it to the total length or actual length
are other ways but this my way
The timeline is set from 0 to 10 seconds. I want to change it to 0 to 60 seconds.
highlight it and type it in the render room as I showed
then click that tab I have the circle around to zoom it into the play length
Thank you again Wendy. It worked!
