Installing Daz Studios Without Daz Central?

Hi,

Is there anyway to download Daz Studio without having to install the Daz Central? I don't want to install Daz Central on my computer I had a bad experience with it in the past.

My Daz Studio seems to be broken. For some reason everytime I open it all my preference settings get removed and it acts like a fresh install. The only good thing is my smart content is still there, but my favorite menu and my interface keeps reseting to default.

You can install Daz Studio general release with DazCentral, Daz Install Manager or manually if you download the installers from your product library (at least for Windows, there's no standalone installer for the Mac version of the general release right now due to some technical issue).

  • The "OPEN" button in Daz Central seems to be broken. I can't even open Daz Studios...

You can try opening your daz directly from the EXE file in your program folder in windows. I don't use Daz Central I worked to hard to customize my Content Database to use Renderosity content and Daz don't have any documents to use Renderosity in that program.

Oh yes, I agree with you. I get really annoyed when developers force users to make changes that are more harmful than helpful.
Just recently the Install Manager downloaded and installed the new Daz Studio version. BUT on the wrong hard drive and ignored the actually specified installation path as well as that of my library.
Now I can reinstall everything and have to check everything three times to make sure that nothing has been lost. (Fortunately my old library still exists and everything seems to be in its place)

I don't want the DazCentral either - but I think we have to use it in the future whether we like it or not. -.-

That should not happen, though the library path is not relevant for software installs.

Why do you need to reinstall everything? Unless the content also moved - which would sound more like the OS losing track of the HD identifiers (drive letters on WIndows).

Install Manager iss till avaialble, Daz Central is a different front-end for the same code with simplified options (just a base location).

  • I beg your pardon, it shouldn't sound aggressive. But I've already had a lot of experience with developer redesigns that sometimes drive the users to despair.
    e.g.:
    -  iTunes:  renamed all my music files and also shot up my entire folder structure. It took me over 3 weeks to rename everything and move it around.
    - Thunderbird: With every major update, almost always all add-ons become unusable and a "downgrade is not possible without data loss "(Mozillas support answer).
    - I remember also some applications, where the update changed my full version to a 30 days trial version.

So why do I now have the feeling that one is forced to "DazCentral":
When I tried to download Daz Studio again - directly from the website - I ran into the obstacle of not having a direct download.
If you go to "Download Daz Studio" at the top of your page ( https://www.daz3d.com/get_studio/ ) you will be automatically redirected
to the "Daz Central" page and every "Download Now" is linked to the file DazCentral_1.5.0.19_Win64.exe and  it would be downloaded.
The installation manager is not mentioned anywhere on this page - oh .. only at the end as "DIM" with the info:
"DazCentral and DIM cannot currently run at the same time."
I feel literally bombarded with the term "Daz Central", also on "My Account" ( https://www.daz3d.com/customer/account )
... what's below? in large letters "Looking for DazCentral?".

Thank you for letting me know that the Daz Install Manager is still available ... and I hope also in the future.

    To your information.
I have reinstalled Daz Studio 4.14. # and also some content successfully (HD of my choice)  with the Daz Install Manager,  smiley
And my OS is fine ... had no problems.  To me it seemed as if my OS hadn't forgotten the path to the correct drive,
but rather as if the install manager had reset itself to a basic setting ... why ever.

Now everything seems ok again ...

You just find this in your product library ( https://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/files ):

    https://www.daz3d.com/daz-studio-4-pro

and then it will show you the ability to directly download files like:

    DAZStudio_4.15.0.2_Win64.exe

    or IM00013176-04_DAZStudio415Mac64bit.zip

Thank you -- that's what I was looking for!

@richard it is actually still doing that - the DazCentral installer refuses to accept a non-system drive for installation of Studio. Sidebar on product strategy for Daz - I am increasingly weary of Daz and its very restrictive attitude towards software management. Out of that frustration comes my increasing interest in moving over to Character Creator, because it appears to be a more robust and professional-grade software. It philosophically respects that character creation requires multiple tools in the workflow. Daz' concept of trying to lock users intothe Daz "walled garden" may work okay short term, but I am pretty sure in the long run it will hurt Daz as a platform.

Others are able to uwe Central to install to a non-system drive. have you tried using Install Manager instead? https://www.daz3d.com/get_install_manager/

  • I've just bought the HFS Races: Catfolks, which requires Studio 4.6 or higher.  Is there anywhere I can download anything more recent than 4.2? (the morphs aren't loading in 4.2)

Current version of Daz Studio is 4.20, i.e much newer than 4.6.

How are you installing and where are you looking?

    ----
I don't use central.. but you could install the program with it or dim on the C drive
Because unless they just made a major change... you can just drag the daz program forlder to another drive and make a shortcut to the exe.
    ---
While I have have backed up installers, I also have the daz folders back to at least 4.8 on another drive and they will run from there.
I 4.20 on my C drive ... daz 12 is not on g or e which are data.. so I think it's on L and I do open it and run it when I have a big scene or project in 20 and just need to tweak a prop or something ...
    ---
In fact most new programs don't really care where they are..
My steam library  is on an external and I upgrade games at a friends house where they have fast unlimited net and then bring that external back and run off it or copy to other drives.
    ----
if everything is on the C drive just copy all that to the new drive (might need a transfer drive but all your links will be to the C drive
If you have data on othe drives just make sure they have the same drive letter if you move them to a new computer.
