Iray Texture Maps

You can attach maps to several parameters, Metallicity, Glossy Roughness, Base Bump, Normal Map, etc.

Is it specified anywhere, which color depth should/could be used?

What I'm getting at, is that "everyone" is going to higher resolutions with textures and maps, but if the parameters were looking at grayscale or BW value in the maps, 24bit color depth is just waste of resources (and RAM/VRAM)

As an example, I have stumbled on a Metallicity Map 8192x8192x8bit, (contains just 1 color = black) => 64MB uncompressed, which is kind of overkill... I think...
