Daz Studio 4.12. Problem with empty render library although there are renders (and other questions)

edited August 2020 in New Users

Hello. As I said on the subject, I have a problem with daz studio 4.12. I put you in context: I have a MacBook Pro with daz 4.5 and 4.10 installed. I've recently bought a new laptop, an HP with win 10. It has 2 disks, 1 SSD (only for programs) and 1 mechanical (for data).

The problem is: I've copied/transferred all daz/poser content, renders and so on between computers, but I don't see anything on the render library tab on the new one (pc). Of course I've added the folder where I put them on through the render directory manager (d:\Daz Studio\Render Library), but nothing. Even I copied the renders on the folder has by default (c:\users\"my user"\documents\DAZ3D\Studio\Render Library), and nothing again. Then I deleted (on the render directory manager, not on the disks themselves of course) both folders, I added only the one where I put the renders on the first place (d:), and on the tab I see as folder… NONE (!!!!). I can click the render library button on the drop-down folder menu all I want, it doesn't get it. Even if I also add the default folder, I also see "none". A few times (1 on 20, I guess), I can see the on folder, render library, but still empty, and if I click again on the drop-down menu, I get none as folder… again. On the Mac, I can add/delete more folders (even if they have photos but no renders) and I see all the respective content, I can select any library/folder without any problems. What am I doing wrong?

The questions/semiproblems are:

1) The content installed. I added the folder where it is (also on d:) through the content directory manager and I see them under the corresponding categories (daz studio formats or poser formats),  BUTTTT , on the products category, I only see the products that came with daz 4.12 (specifically under letters D, G and L), but the rest (the daz content I copied) it isn't there (as I said only on products/a, b, c and so on). As I don't use this to add content to a scene for me isn't important, but it's curious.

2) DazCentral. Is it really necessary? I mean: first I downloaded/installed daz studio (on c:\program files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4). Then I downloaded/installed DazCentral, and it redownloaded/reinstalled daz studio… ON ANOTHER FOLDER (!), it didn't see that I already had it (the new folder is c:\Daz 3D\Applications\64-bit\DAZ 3D\DazStudio4). So I don't see any use for DazCentral: if I can install products (bought here on the store or in renderosity) directly, I cannot find any utility for it.

The "only questions":

1) I have a limited traffic internet connection, so I'm usually disconnected on the Mac (or now also on the HP). Is there any way to have the help installed locally? On the help menu, quickstart guide/user guide/reference guide, the open the browser. And also on the help menu/interactive help, for most of the options I see the forbidden sign.

2) My PC has 2 graphic cards, one integrated (intel 630) and another dedicated (Nvidia 1650). How can I use the last for the renders? I mean: maybe it is already selected, but I don't see a "fast" render .

Finally, a couple of things that for me are a bit "bizarre":

1) On windows, the folder separator on the paths is "\", but both on the program and on windows registry it is "/" (like on Mac/Unix).

2) On the windows registry all references to daz studio are made to the "DazCentral installed" (c:\Daz 3D\Applications), not to the one I first installed (on c:\program files). On Mac I have (as I said) 2 versions of daz (4.5 and 4.10) and all changes I do on one of them are reflected on the other with no problems.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sergio.

  • Some of the problems might be solved by letting the program run for awhile searching for available content on the computer.
