Editing "S8 Suit for Genesis 8 Female(s)"

So.. I got me the S8 Suit for Genesis 8 Female(s) and the male version today. Looks great, but I still ended up trying to use the geometry tool to change some part of it by adding a new surface to it... you know, mark a region and use the "add new surface" option on which I could apply a different shader... which came up with an interesting result, when I applied an opaque shader... as it showed me, that there was no body beneath that suit... ?!?
It's the first time I encounter a piece of virtual clothes doing that, so I'm not sure how to work around that, if I would - for instance - make some parts of the suit invisible to show off some bare skin below it... or if I would want to get some parts of the suit "damaged" by using an opacity map etc.
One solution would probably be to either use a second version of the figure wearing that suit parented to the first?!? Or using a geoshell for the figure with a negative distance modifier and the figures textures added to it?!?
Or is there a really fast and simple way to work around it?

It looks like it is not an actual suit, but a morph.
So you would need to load the same character twice, in the same position, one with the suit and one without, and then you could apply holes in the character with the suit.
But honestly, I think it would be a mess, and I am annoyed that it isn't listed in the description, if that is the case.
This is just the way midnight_stories constructs the suits. They are geografts? Something like that. It eliminates poke-through, so there's a benefit when you're working with skin-tight clothing/suits and a variety of body shapes. Like, I was able to put the Mercury Ranger suit onto JoeQuick's Teddy Bear without trouble - a very non-standard G8M morph.
There are other artists who do the same with their clothing/outfits.
Yeah, a little hint in the description would have been nice.
Seems I'll have to do some more testing to see which figures - and I got quite a few non-standard G8M ones - brings it to it's limits then![devil devil](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/devil_smile.png)
Okay.. I did some test.. Here we have the Troll for G8M wearing the male version of the S8 suit (after the modification explained below)
First of all I changed the "Cutout Opacity" of the suit's surface "Suit2" to zero (0). At that point, as only head, hands and feet of the troll weren't invisible, one could look into an empty suit shell.
Next I applied a Geometry Shell (Create -> New Geometry Shell) on the Troll. In the Parameter Tab of the Geometry Shell I made the surfaces and face groups for everything related to head, hands and feet invisible by turning them off. I also set the Mesh Offset (Parameter Tab for the Shell -> Mesh Offset) to -0.10 - so inside the original invisble Troll figure - to avoid it interfering with the suit..
Last I copied the textures from the Troll's surfaces to the shell's surfaces. Result = see above.
So I guess using Opacity Maps on the suits is easier than I feared and only involves a little bit of simple editing![wink wink](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/wink_smile.png)
And here's the application of above's concept:
The same set as above with one of the "Ripped" shaders from PixelTizzyFit's PTF Grungy Threads product applied. I also tried out some worn metal shader just for the lulz..
So applying an opacity map works, but is a bit tricky due to the suit only having shade-able surfaces that cover ALL of it's surface. So positioning the opacity map has to be done very careful... but as a concept, it works![wink wink](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/wink_smile.png)
Edit: only the surface called "suit" and "undersuit" are one large surface. The surface "suit2" comes with a template one can use to make one own's opacity map
And a result...
Just a fast and dirty (and not cleaned up) edit of the "SuitBaseColor.jpg"
Interesting. sixus1's Galactic Tyrant has a gauntlet set that also affects underlying skin, so this looks like a good experiment to do on those gauntlets.
How do you get the SECTION 8 branding off so it is just the suit? I love the suit - just want to get rid of the branding and logos on it. Any ideas?
Take the images into an image editing program, and remove the logos, with what I think is called 'healing brush' in photoshop.
It might be enough to do the base colour, but it might also be on the others.
Thanks, Felis - I can't seem to locate the texture files anywhere for this suit. Not sure if they are baked in to the morphs?
C:\Daz 3D\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\My DAZ 3D Library\Runtime\Textures\Midnight_stories (nothing there to edit)
They are there according to readme http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/71845/file_list
But if you can't find them, then open the surface tab, and right click on the image in base colour and select browse. That will take you to the directory where it is.
