Can't create product from 3rd party content in Daz Studio 4.12

I'm trying to re-add my metadata for 3rd party assets so they appear in Smart Content. The original process no longer seems to work.

In the past, right clicking on a folder in the content library and using the "Create a Product from..." item would create a product entry and include all the items in the content library folder in the new product entry. I could then categorize and tag the content and import the new metadata so it would appear as Smart Content.

However, after a reinstall of Daz Studio on my computer, now when I click "Create a Product from...", the product entry is created but none of the content items in the library are included in the new product. Has something changed?

I used to follow this process https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69uIKMZ7zZk by 3D Almanac but it no longer applies as the content items are not brought into the new product . Also, the DAZ tutorial here http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/userguide/creating_content/packaging/tutorials/adding_metadata/start (which is really old) also says "All contents of the selected folder and all sub-folders will be added to the Product.", but this is not so in my case as nothing is added to the Product.

This is very frustrating as I had a lot of assets fully categorised as Smart Content that I can no longer get to conveniently. Is this a bug, user error or a feature that has changed?

Creating a product works for me using DS 4.12.2.6 beta.  Be sure to select "All Files" to see the uncategorized files.

I find it easier to create the product and it's sub-folders in the Content Library, add the files, categorize each folder then create the product allowing the product to show up on the Smart Content tab.

  • OK, so it was user error. And failing memorty and lack of attention.

I need to select all the asset files and folders beneath the content folder entry that I want to turn into a product. Then, when I click on "Create Product from..." all the assets get brought into the new product.

No, just the main product folder.  Any sub-folder will be included in the product created.

Edit:  It's best to categorize the files within the Content Library first, then create the Product because files don't typically display in the Smart Content tab unless they are categorized.
