Which computer to buy?

I plan to buy a new PC or laptop and would love your suggestions. Like many, I want something good for fast rendering, animation. Trying to keep below $3k, preferably closer to $2,500. Here are two I'm looking at. What are your thoughts? I'd prefer a laptop, but if I'd be sacrificing significant performance between these two, I'd bite the bullet and go with the PC.

It looks pretty clear that the PC is the better choice for your objectives:

    • Better faster processor
    • Faster memory
    • Better faster graphics card
    • More storage space
    • Most likely much better cooling

The desktop would be faster, but for portability the laptop would work quite well. I have a laptop with a 2070 and have been really happy with it. Not as fast as a similar priced desktop, but I can't take a desktop with me. I'm happy with the performance. I've been able to make some images I'm really happy with (you can look in my gallery to get an Idea regarding what you could do with the 2070).

The PC and it's upgradable. You don't want a laptop for those sort of price until the new GPUs come out in such laptops.

  • Thank you guys for the suggestions/comments. As I mentioned, I plan to do animation, not just images, so I really need something robust. I kind of figured the PC would be the way to go, but as DustRider said, I'd love to take it with me, and I can't do that with a Desktop.

Do you ever do animation, as opposed to images, on your laptop? I'm curious how fast it is in that regard?

  • Okay, here was the offer I got. This is a lot of money  for me, so if there is anything I need to add, remove or change please let me know. Again, I want something that renders fast for animation. (Is liquid cooling for CPU only sufficient?)
