Strange Lighting Problem with New Model - Creature from the Depths

NoName99NoName99 Posts: 322

I bought, downloaded and installed Creature from the Depths HD for Genesis.
The model itself looks amazing.

However, something's not right. When I load the character in, and create a new light, nothing happens in the viewport.

And it gets weirder, if I render out a still, the light from the light source IS VISIBLE in the render, but not in the viewport.

I've made sure "scene lights" were active in the light panel. This isn't happening with any other models, just this new one I installed today.

Also, if I only apply the character morph, and not the materials, lights work fine.

But once I add the materials, lights stop working in the viewport.

Any ideas? I've been trying to figure this out for 2 hours now and can't get anywhere.

How many other lights were already in your scene?

None. I opened a new project, loaded the character, added a light......

    And nothing.

I tried adding a different light, still nothing.

I rebooted my computer, tried again, still no luck.

If I switch the materials to Genesis neutral grey, everything works fine, so the problem appears to be caused by the materials that came with the character model.

Can you go over your exact steps? I tried the following:
    Launch DS 4.6.3.52
Load Creature from the Deep character.
Created new spotlight using Active Transforms (default Perspective view).
    It's working normally here.

Have you tried uninstalling and redownloading the Creature?

    I tried uninstalling and re-installing without re-downloading.

I'm going to try re-downloading and do a manual install, not using install manager.

So I still haven't gotten this to work right.

I uninstalled, redownloaded, and reinstalled. Still having the same problem.

Really strange, it's the only model I'm having this problem with. Everything else is working fine.
Any help would be appreciated, I was really looking forward to using this model in an animation.

I'm going to try a manual install, and bypass Install Manager.

I just noticed, is there a 64 bit version of Install Manager?

Install manager does not need to be 64 bit to do its job. It does not come in a 64bit version.

EDIT: Something is definitely off with your system. It renders properly with any light set up I toss at it.

    Thanks.

It renders out properly for me too. The problem is, when I create a light in my scene, I can't see the light effecting the model, or anything else in the scene.

If I render out a still image, light effecting the scene is visible.

Yeah that's how I've been working around it. I'm posing/animating without seeing the light in the viewport, and rendering out stills to see how it looks.

It's just bothering me that it's only happening with this one particular character. What's even stranger is that it happens when I add the materials. If I just add the shape to Genesis and keep the neutral grey genesis mats, everything is fine. I can even add the Jeremy mats, or Troll mats, and everything is still good.

But once I add the Creature from the Depths mats, the lights stop working in the viewport.

As endearingly temperamental as Daz can be, this is probably the oddest snafu I've come across.

If the creature is using AoA's SSS shader than the issue is the SSS channel causes the surface it is applied to to appear to 'glow' in preview.
