Why does this feel 'Old Hat', I wonder?: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/technology-53650678

Digital fashion catwalks: Looks like they are attempting to re-do what has been done in DS for ages... BBC trying to make news out of something already old.

Likely because its new to a lot of people. Studio and similar programs are familar to a relatively small set of the population. In other threads you have said the you lived in the English countryside and that few people you knew practiced / knew anything about yoga. How many in your vilage/town do you think Blender is somethign other than a kitchen appliance?

  • There is that, but... It's being promoted as new tech. And it's far from being so. Just lots of money being splashed about at existing tech.

Does cash baffle brains? [To paraphrase a well known saying].

Old ideas are dressed up as new all the time.

Every generation has to relearn everything anew. If we didn't have education at all, and we removed all sources, the next generation would be back to the stone age basically. So lots of stuff really is new, to somebody. This is more true the more specialized or specific it is.

It’s just PR. They have a good publicist who was able to put a spin on it and make it seem interesting, and with Kendall Jenner in the mix, it now becomes newsworthy. Fashion & beauty stories with celebrities and added technology is a very sellable puff piece. No different than hyping a new movie about to be released as if it was the most amazing thing ever made.

The thing with fashion and Covid is that people spend money on new clothes and dress up ir order to be seen.  With social distancing, there are a lot fewer occasions to show off your new duds.  So while there are these changes in how clothes are sold, there's less point in buying them.

I know, right? I’ve practically been living in leggings and a t-shirt lol. In California we are not legally even allowed to have or go to events with more than 10 people and those people are supposed to be in your “pod” or immediate household. And I haven’t worn lipstick or lipgloss since March since it just rubs off on the mask!
