Is it possible to copy and paste clothing textures onto other clothing props?

[Is it possible to copy and paste clothing textures onto other clothing props?] Say I had 2 different jeans props. One is being worn by a character and the other different jeans prop is just laying on the floor.

Is it possible to copy the textures from the jeans the character is wearing and paste them onto the different jeans prop laying on the floor? Just so they look roughly the same.

  • Yes, but if the two items have different UV mappings the textures won't line up and if the target item currently uses a different shader you will need to apply the preset for the base shader first.

Ok.....is there a tutorial on this somewhere? I have tried looking but can't find anything that explains it.

I dont even know what UV mappings are or how to apply a preset....I'm a complete newbie at this!

    Thanks for the reply.

  • Select the target area of the source item with the Surface selection tool, from the Tools menu, Edit>Copy>Copy Slected Surface. Select the target area of the destination item with the Surface Selection Tool, Edit>Paste>Paste To Selected Surface(s)

Ah....getting there. Just made my first ever texture map using GIMP image editor!

I think realistically texturing jeans in gimp is probably quite difficult.

Just D-force the pants the character is wearing so they drop onto the floor (provided D force will work on the jeans the character is wearing). They need to be welded or they will fall apart when simulating with D force.
