Is the CMS running? Check Task manger, or the Mac equivalent, for DAZ Content Management Service in the Services list if you haven't switched to PostgreSQL or for PostgreSQL in the procresses list if you have. Have you switched to PostgreSQL? if you did, did you run the tool to convert your database from Valentina, or simply reimported metadata?

thank you Richard
reinstalling PostgreSQL through DIM did the job
but now all my categories are gone
I hope reinstalling metadata gets it right
no-now there are a lot of categories I never created
