How to select sub poly group or a hidden bone?

Hey guys, I ran into this issue where something in the hair asset pokes out and I can't remove or hide or fix it. Is there any quick way to select this sub-object poly group, (or element in 3ds Max's term)? Or maybe select the bone that controls this poly group? Or find out which morph controls this section?

Thanks a lot!

You can open up either the Geometry Editor (if the hair is set up with face groups) or the Node Weight Map Brush and scroll through the bones to see which one controls the polys you're looking for.

  • Thanks a lot, Gordig. So I managed to add these problematic meshes into a face group and then hid this whole group using Geometry Editor. But I can't figure out how to identify which bone or morph is causing this issue. Also, I haven't figured out how to use node weight map brush to locate the bone that these polygons are attached to. Could you give me slightly more hint please? Thanks a lot!

In retrospect, the Node Weight Map brush isn't the best way to go about this for something with blended weights, like hair. However, if you click on a bone and select whatever weight mapping it uses, you'll see the distribution of weights, like so:

Thanks again, Gordig. I just found another issue, when I select a collection of faces using mesh editor tool, and then go to selection visibility and hide them, the next time when I load the scene, these polygons show up again. So now I have to save them as a separate face group, so that I don't have to select them every time. Is this a bug or a feature?

Also, does Daz Studio have some tools like soft selection, so that I can grab some polygons and manipulate them using some falloff?

dForms and Push Modifiers support the use of weight maps.
