How can I keep the feathers from poking into and through her body? I followed the instructions, using each "prepare" at the appropriate time. I tried both animated and current frame simulation. Any tips?

I postwork them out as best as I can... I've not figured that out either... lol.  Well done!

They're advertised as dForce, so I expect them to collide with and dform against the body, but I don't see that happening all. When you dForce the feathers, do you see anything happening?

hum.. yes.. the boa is straight to begin with... then conforms around the shoulders ... but I can't tell if it's just the string that is conforming or the individual feathers.  So I just postwork the feathers out of places they shouldn't be.  But I don't always get them all...  You can't go by me... I'm not really that experienced with dForce :(  I plan on getting a new computer ... so that may help... My current computer takes soooooooooo long to dForce anything I end up leaving the room until it's finished... lol

So after playing with this item finally, I want to share a tip :)

Once you have dforced the boa, and have applied your feathery transparencies, you will notice feathers intersecting the skin. Simply export each of the 3 pieces, one at a time. You can then manipulate the cards either in zbrush or import them back into daz where you can use mesh grabber or dform. Once you are done manipulating them, you can copy and paste the original textures onto the new cards :)

You obviously wont be able to dforce the new cards, so keep this as your final step!

I don't understand what you mean by "cards".

I assume that the boa uses a series of planes across its width for the fur - these are often referred to as cards. The same is used for leaf planes on trees, flames in fires and so on.

Richard is correct.  If you click on the surfaces tab on one of the boas (they are at the bottom of the expanded boa): Remove the opacity map from one of them that has the feathers, you will see that they appear as cards or strips or small ribbons :) These are the ones you want to export after you have dforced the boa.

I have never heard of planes being called cards either.

    Thanks, I understand now.

New question. Why do you have to export and reimport? Why can't you use Mesh Grabber on the original mesh? Does it have to do with them being dForced?

Seems like a lot of work... and I don't have zbrush or mesh grabber... I think I'll stick with postworking the feather out of the skin... ;)  Thanks for the tip though.

Because Esha has utilzed Dhair to make these amazing boas. Most of the modelling programs like zbrush or meshgrabber cant seem to see the lines, as is. However, exporting and reimporting the way she has them set up, works!

Thanks. I'm going to give your technique a try.

I can't figure this out. More explicit instructions are needed. What are the "3 pieces" that need to be exported?

Edit - let me try again. I was using fur, not feathers.

Nope, I still can't figure it out.

OK, one more time - DON"T have Mesh Grabber or Geometry Editor tool selected while exporting. That seemed to break everything. Now I got the feathers exported and imported, but it is nearly impossible for me to select the right "card" for manipulating with Mesh Grabber.

I feel for ya... That's why I just postwork... Maybe play with the pose a little too.  I've found that helps... Just pull the arms away from the body more... twist an arm... Etc.  I'm sure you will get it :)  I'd love to see the result afterwards please.  YOU can do it!!!  ;)

I rate this difficulty 10 out of 10. I just couldn't select the right thing to adjust with Mesh Grabber, even after finally getting it exported and reimported. I may try again some time when I am less frustrated. I don't have Zbrush. Maybe that is easier.

:(... I admit I've not used the boas since my last post about a year ago... I got a new computer... I may just try it now and see what happens.  I guess nothing is easy peasy these days (sighs).  I'll post something if it comes out ok.  :)

I have not tried this with Mesh Grabber or Dform,  It's been awhile since Ive used those at all but I know they should work.

    Directions:

Follow Eshas directions to dforce the boa. Apply your feathers and mats. This is important!

Make sure you do not have Mesh Grabber or the Geometry Editor selected. Expand the Boa in the scene and export the following:

Boa (long/short/center/tip ) Feather 1, Boa (long/short/center/tip ) Feather 2, Boa (long/short/center/tip ) Feather 3, one at a time, making sure to hide everything else in the scene. This important so that the Boa can keep its uvs intact.

Reimport the Boa pieces 1 at a time. I recommend working on one set at a time because there are so many cards. Mesh Grabber or Dform can not work on individual cards( zbrush can sort of ) but it can pull the entire boa area away from the body.

You can also try the geometry editor, Using the polygon slection tool, select the faces that are really buggin you, then hide the selected faces (Geometry:Visibility:Hide Selected Faces)

Copy and Paste the surfaces from each of the dforced boa surfaces on to the new improved one.

Didnt mean to frustrate anyone :)

I have found selecting the desired geometry with the geometry tool and then switching to mesh grabber makes using mesh grabber much easier.
