New and confused: how do I save edits to a model?

I literally am in my second day of taking a crack at learning this hobby. I'm used to old school where you save an original of a file and then work from a copy, and maybe that's how you do it in daz, but I'm missing it. If I make edits to the genesis 8 model, how do I save that as a separate model that I can use? In other words, if I'm trying to create a unique look for my character, I want to be able to bring up all those changes for any scene, not just one I'm working on at the moment. I don't see a file save as that I can use to rename and bring that up the same way I bring up the default genesis 8, but again, I'm totally new and I'm sure I'm missing the obvious.
Thanks for any insight.

After loading a figure and making whatever modifications you like, try going to File > Save As and then making the appropriate selection. Please remember, I'm not promising success; DAZ Studio documentation is not the finest, I have no idea if any selection there will work.
you have two options depending on what you want to save, File>save as> character preset will save the entire character so its shape as well as its skin/surface settings, File> save as > shaping preset will save just the shape of the character (so any morphs you have dialed in).
if you save into the default location offered you should then find your presets under My Library > presets in the content library pane.
Personally I perfer to save the character as a scene subset, becuase I can give them hair and clothes and accessories that get saved also.
Thank you very much for the replies!
