DIM being problematic

Been away for a bit due to moving to a new country. I needed to re install all my products as the HD died, and so I thought the DIM would help, I managed to rework the install path from the original E: drive to my new C: drive content, the first trial run I did (11 items) and this worked Brilliantly.
But trying to install more and I get "Install Failed" I have changed nothing from the first "Trial" install so why are these failing now?
I checked and the 11 are there in Daz.

Also why is DAZStudio 4.6 not recognized by the DIM?

Thanks.

DAZ Studio is 100% separate from DIM, have you set the PATHs in DAZ Studio to point to the DIM folder? As for DIM Failing on all new installs did you do the Accept to hold the New settings after you changed them? If not it reverted back to the old settings.

Hi there thank you for replying,
I have found that the install path is best not changed from the PublicDocuments file path as it just throws up errors and will not install, I did find there was probllems with not Downloading too, but I seem to have got everything in the right place now and searching in the right places.

That's odd I install to a Folder on my D: Drive with zero issues. All you want to change is the content install path not the Paths it expects the software to be in.

    I go to,
Settings. (cog in top right corner)
Installation. and under "Label" and "Path"

It has to be " C:/Users/Public/Documents/My DAZ 3D Library"

As if I change it to my Programs folder. "C:/Program Files/DAZ 3D/DAZStudio4/My Library" Where I manually add content it fails to install.

You can't change the default, but you can add a different path. That said, putting content under Program Files can cause problems in Windows 7/8/Vista.

I will leave it as the public file, it works, so the old adage, if it ain't broke.....

I found DIM can be a bit flaky if I don't run it as administrator otherwise I have no problems getting it to install to paths other than the defaults.

On Window 7 and Others beyond XP the Programs Files folders are Protected Areas of the Hard Drive and you should NOT install content for any application to those areas. They do not allow REAL writes to that area for content Saves. That is why most programs moved to the My Documents folder years ago for Data Storage. All writes beyond a Install to the Program Files areas really goes to AppData Roaming which changes as the OS is read on each boot.

Cheers everyone, I have now managed to install over 200 products, just a coupe hundred more,
but I have noticed a few things say they have installed but for the life of me I can't find in Daz, for example Aiko 4. I have Victoria 4.2 base, and looked all around, but it is another day and a clear head, I will look again.

If you Open the Installed section of DIM you will see some items have a Check and some do not. Those with a Check are Smart content and can be found in the Smart Content Tab all others can be found in either the Content Library Tab, look in both format sections as most none smart stuff is Poser Format or in the Content Library Tab Products section. See below for example...

Have you Ever Imported the Metadata? Is your CMS even running? And most of that content does appear to be older files that would not be Smart at this time. DAZ 3D is updating the older content as time allows but it is a huge job and will that a very long time before all content is Smart. I still think your Database program is not running for some reason though.

It has been a while since I have been able to use my PC and honestly a lot of things have changed, and from previous posts here it was said that things I used to do are now a bad idea. so I am cleaning out my folders and seeing if I can start again.
I clicked on the "Start CMS" but noting seems to happen, once I reinstall how do I start the CMS?
