.Obj files to Genesis?

Hello everyone!

It's me again.
Thanks all for helping me with my last problem...I managed to download a couple of files and they were lovely.

Now I have a new problem.

I downloaded some gorgeous character-shaped .Obj files, and I'd really like to make them "real" characters...Genesis or Genesis 2 (I'd prefer the latter, but the former would be very fine too). Basically, I'd like to take one of my .Obj files, and be able to morph, shape, dress, pose, render, etc, as if it were a G or G2 character.

Is that possible? And if so, how?

Oh, by the way, as if it wasn't complicated enough: these .Obj files are already "dressed". Basically they've been modeled with "clothing" on them- I'd love to dissociate the clothes from the character. Is that possible too?

I'm using Daz Studio 4.6, and...that's it. So can I do as I ask? And if so, can I do it in Daz or do I need another software? In the forums I saw it's possible to turn .Obj files into character clothing. But can I turn Obj. files into characters? I don't want to model them, just morph, pose, etc. And can I dissociate the clothes already modeled on the files?

Your help would be appreciated, very much so.

    If the Figures came made with the clothing as part of the MESH then no you can not remove the clothing, it is not clothing as you are thinking but a built in part of the figure.
    You Can use DAZ Studio to RIG those figures to be posed though. There is even a For sale tutorial on Character Rigging in the DAZ 3D store or you can get most of the needed info here...

    answer yes and no
    you can "rig" them using the transfer utility but they would be poseable shells and fingers a bugger to match up to say the least.
    I have done it with figures for use in another program called iClone but totally redid bones in fingers manually using boning and weightbrush tools
    cutting them up and using the clothes another possibility
    can be done with an external modeler or the geometry editor tool
    you can place the head on Genesis and add a smoothing modifier to genesis with the head as a collision item then hide it with the little eye icon, export base genesis and load it as a morph target to get rough headshape but will get other issues such as eye mouthpart distortion.
    rigging from scratch probably the best way to do them as said by others above.
