Looking for 60s hairstyle - bangs with scarf - solved Sae hair - add my own scarf
New Title for Thread. I was looking for the hair style below with scarf. Now interested in strand hair tools.
looking for hair style (60s?) hair band, short bangs in the front, longer hair in the back
I found one or two in the store for V4 and Genesis 2. Many of the examples I can find for G8 don't have bangs, or if they do, the back is way too long or way too short. An example of way too long is wild winds hair, which would be satisfactory for this project otherwise. https://www.daz3d.com/wild-winds-hair-with-dforce-for-genesis-8-females
Styles with a side part for bangs are slightly preferred.

More 60s than 70s, but yeah, it's a cute look.
@Sevrin - I have corrected the first post to say 60s.
Just some hairs with hairband I have, maybe one of them might work:

Thanks for the prompt reply. I do own several of your products here. I think of these Lollipop Hair comes closest to what I am looking for, but it was for V4. Hopefully, by replacing the shaders with Iray hair shaders and a quick morph or two I can get what I want.
Love your products, @Toaz.
Edit: But Lollipop hair band is wrong for this project. The Elena scarf is closer. Maybe the answer is morphing Elena hair for G3F.
In any case, thanks.
You're welcome, though it's not some I have made, just some I own myself.
you really only need the headband, there are literally hundreds of hairs that look like those you could use with a headband,
You have Carrara, you make many more complex stuffs
start by making a torus ...
haha, you know me too well. I started experimenting with making morphs for the hairs that I have that Toaz pointed out. Took a break, but when I came back I decided to try my hand at Daz Studio hair. Naturally, that meant firing up Carrara first to make a hair cap, which will be followed by the rolled scarf.
For the Daz Studio strand hair, I plan to follow this tutorial - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjH1BnKzLmE
Would appreciate any additional pointers and suggestions. (this is where it is annoying that I can't make Studio strand hair DForce - or can I?)
you can if you become a PA
or
get PhilW to sell it
New Title for Thread. I was looking for the hair style in first post above with scarf. Now interested in strand hair tools.
Upon which type of model should I be planning my strand-based hair experiment?
OK, I've modeled
1) a hair cap divided into material zones, including a material zone for 'under the hair band' - so hair cap is spearate prop
2) a hair band that by default is across forehead, behind ears and under nape of neck - so hair band is a separate prop
3) a hair cap and hair band model combined in a single prop
To answer your new title question: Yes, there are several forum threads on SBH.
The official one (started when SBH was added to the DS Beta): https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/326996/dforce-hair-as-well-as-strand-based-hair-and-the-strand-based-hair-editor-in-public-beta/p1
This one by 3Diva: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/335676/strand-based-hair-mini-tutorial/p1
This one which points you to the Garibaldi Express documentation (on which SBH is based): https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/385561/strand-based-hair-question
ETA: A Google search may turn up a few more.
Thank you, @MelanieL. Much appreciated
Haha - I call this "Yuk, My First Hair Band and Bangs Test"
Despite the most excellent tutorials, here was my first test.
I tried to grow the hair on a prop with the hair band above the hair cap. Therefore, I was struggling with the comb to get the hairs pulled under the band. I think the crve points could have been controlled for that. Maybe. Probably should have tried something simpler first to understand the controls and tools, and then grown the hair without the hair band on the same model.
For the project I am doing, I will go back to morphing and existing hair. However, I am intrigued by the possibilities of the strand based hair and will do some more experiments. After my current project, I will go hide in a corner and practice for a while with the tools.
..not bad.
I've been experimenting with Strand Based Hair myself. Working up to my goal of recreating the hair for Merida from the film Brave as there is little to no content that is similar (originally used 2 instances of Mairy's Bolina Hair for V4 but in some positions and especially when lengthened, it tends to distort. The Classic Long Curly Hair for G8, comes very close, but it's dForce and it doesn't have "fiery red" colour that the character's has (see the GIF below). Not skilled enough to create my own hair textures.
For colouration I use Slosh's UHT2 Hair Salon and tweak the colours as needed.
Good points. If you have something specific in mind, like the Brave hair, it is good to have options to do it yourself. A few years back, I wanted to be able to do a little Fanart with Speed Racer and the gang. Kitbashing can get pretty far. Speed is wearing a golf shirt with a decal. No problem to kitbash from my runtimes (OK, more than a couple of years back). But Trixie had a shirt like a potato sack with bows at the shoulders. Ugh, no way to morph a sleeve to a shoulder bow (well, unless you are named JoeQuick). I needed to be able to model to add the bows as accessories.
I picked up the Slosh hair resource Colorworks shaders for Iray https://www.daz3d.com/colorwerks-hair-shaders-for-iray during the build your own fastgrab sale. I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but I am hopeful that it solves a lot of problems.
Reconsidering the style that sparked this thread - hair band and bangs, I think I could model with a traditional polygon mesh using Hexagon or Carrara (in Carrara could use its strand hair and a free strand-to-mesh plugin by Philemo). After my current project, I want to learn strand hair for the extra tool in my 3D toolbox.
I use https://www.daz3d.com/colorwerks-extreme-hair-texture-blending-for-iray-and-dforce-hair to color strand-based hair, fibermesh hair, and transmapped hair the same color, since it uses its own custom shader. Never really had any luck making my own hair or figuring out how to save it to use later, but I did have luck using SBH to thicken old V4 hairs that looked too thin in Iray.
I have that ColorWerks one you linked to too. Can't be used with SBH, but I love the results on the mesh hairs. I use both.
@MimicMolly
Oh, thank you, thank you.
I didn't know that about the shader. Maybe the reason the render does not look like the hair strands in the editor is because my shader is wrong.
To circle back and resolve the initial issue - hair with a band and bangs.
For my immediate needs, I picked up the Sae Character and Hair by Goanna in the Daz3D store which, comes with a narrow band and bow. I am making my own simple wide scarf to replace the narrow band/bow which should be fine after I add a few morphs. Looks like a great product.
