10th Gen i7, 32GB RAM, Nvidia GTX 1660 Super GPU, 1tb hard drive, 512GB SSD. I hope you don't get mad at me. It's an HP Envoy computer. It was a spontaneous gift from my father. The computer will likely arrive Sep 11. I'm happy.

  • Enjoy. Save up and get a better GPU.

  • Thanks. My next financial priority is to save money so I can move closer to my parents.

    congrats

  • Thanks, everyone. I'm pretty hazy today. I hadn't slept much for a couple nights. I finally got to see my family for the second time this year. We had a wonderful time, complete with my favorite pizza and a few beers.I got a little sleep last night, but woke up early.

I have a wild idea for YouTube videos to chronicle the birth of Marlin's World, and also my struggles to find a sense of direction as a frustrated writer and starving artist. I hope to find some original, crude, hand drawings of Marlin Fingle when I first thought of the idea.

Congrats on the new machine! May your renderings be plentiful and your tech support calls be few.

Cool!  Congratulations.yes  New 'puters always appreciated, especially when as gifts.smiley  There's nothing wrong with an Nvidia 1660 graphics card.  It's what I have in my new machine and I am over the moon with how much better it is than what I had.  Sure, it's not an 8 or 10GB $1000 card and doesn't have rocket thrusters and a metalflake paint job, but I really appreciate being able to render IRay images without having to make & eat dinner before seeing the results.

"HP Envoy"?  which model?  I couldn't find any reference to "Envoy" in the HP catalog.indecision

Speaking of 'puters as gifts...  My old workhorse machine that I've had and use every day, starting first thing in the morning, for 10 or 11 years is an HP Pavilion desktop that my father bought for me at the low point in my life.  I love it, and pet it, and squeeze it and call it "Nox" and am loath to retire it.  Yep, gift computers, always appreciated.

I think it might be ENVY.

  • NylonGirl, yes you are right. Thanks for providing the right info, and link. I was very inebriated when I got home last night. I'd spent the day with my family, and we had a few beers, etc.

As it is, it doesn't look bad, but couple of things jumped out.

Max RAM 32GB, what chipset is it using?
The 400W PSU may need upgrading with possible GPU upgrade

Anyways congrats for the new rig yes

  • PerttiA thanks for your input. I will know more once the computer arrives around September 11. I know you get more control if you build a computer yourself. I will likely try to upgrade the computer as time passes.

My Dad really wanted to buy me a computer, but he needed to see an actual computer in a brochure or online... He needed to see exactly what his money would buy..

Ron, so happy for you!  A new computer will really be fun to play around with. I see some great art coming soon in your future :)

  • Novica, as always, thanks for your support. I've come to accept myself as a regular person struggling to realize some of my dreams and just to"make art." My abilities are fairly elementary compared to others here at DAZ.My future artwork and YouTube videos will highlight that journey.

Congrats Ron, that's a really nice gift :)

  • Thanks. It was a special day because we got together for the first time in months, and we started to plan on where I would go when I moved to be closer to them. And my Dad also gave me his 2009 Macbook notebook computer. Yeah, it's old. But it's fun to have the Apple experience again.

  • Bobvan, wow, I'm flattered you remember me. How long ago did you start?! I've been a bumbling amateur for over 20 years!

  • Hey Ron. Enjoy your new rig. So happy you got to see your family. I just saw my mom last week. My Dad died in April and I hadn't seen them since February

I think Costco is a great place to get a computer. It's where I got my Chromebook and my semi-gaming laptop and my Nephew's Macbook and my other nephew's... I think I may have figured out why I dont have money. But they have good computers.

Bobvan, I'm always glad to help. You probably know by now that my memory is a bit "faulty!" Nylon Girl, right now I am using an HP 17" notebook that my Dad bought for me from Costco!

That's a great gift and a really decent system. That 1660 isn't a bad card at all. Should be like night and day in rendering. Congrats
  • Thank you very much, daveso, for your encouragement and info.
