Is it possible or can I convert a scene I created in Carrara into a DAZ Studio compatable scene?

    if you did not use
    replicators
    Dynamic Hair or fur
    procedural shaders
    maybe
as obj export sometimes as Daz collada

trees need to have full mesh ticked and one alone a huge load.

So I'd it simply an export or save option?

For the .obj and collada, it is certainly an export, but for the scene, I suppose that the version c8.5 has an option “save as” in daz Studio format (with the restrictions that Wendy wrote in her answer).

it is "save as" but as either obj or Daz collada
FBX may work too but is much less likely
as I said you would not want it to be too big either

note rigged Daz figures will not export in a scene in any format to Daz studio
(they do to a few other programs such as iClone5 3Dxchange for example but not the best way to do so, Daz studio is)

Personally, I wish that the entire Poser/DS community of users would all just decide to (finally) switch to Carrara for the better. It sure would help to solve a plethora of headaches! :ahhh:

Carrara, in my opinion, has so much more going for it. Perhaps keep DS Pro around as a Triax Auto-Rig tool, but it would be even better to just put all of that into Carrara.

Okay Sloth, now you can beat me up! ;)

BTW, I wasn't kidding... I really do wish that everyone would just jump onto the Carrara bandwagon! It's so nice in here!

Hear, hear! Dude knows what he's talking about! Hope you had a rockin' fourth, Dart!

I agree. I've only been using Carrara for about two months (after starting with DAZ Studio last summer) and Carrara has so much potential and power it's a shame that it get so little love from DAZ. I mean it could be that we'll see Victoria 7 or Michael 7 before we see a significant update to Carrara.

The problem could be that because Carrara's code base is old and was made by another company, DAZ' programmers (and managers) are reluctant to work on it. It might even need a complete rewrite to bring it to current standards. It's how it feels like to me, as I'm a programmer myself.

Zig Zag, I believe that you understood the main thing, but there are certainly some economic parameters to take into account.
What is most awkward for the users, it's the lack of communication of DAZ.
If they would share us about their problems or ambitions, it would be much more pleasant for everyone (except if they take us for automatic cash machines but, I don't think so)…
But Carrara always remains in the excellent softwares for the moment.

    That's not good news.

    HI Argus 1000 :)

It's not actually news,. at all,.
it's one persons thoughts,.... an important part being....

The problem could be that because Carrara’s code base is old

Much of carrara was rewritten during the C8 / C8.5 development process,. it' wasn't just a matter of adding some new code to support genesis.

    Old doesn't mean Bad.

    Hi SlothXXX :)

Is it possible or can I convert a scene I created in Carrara into a DAZ Studio compatable scene?

Right now there are too many differences in the Carrara features which DS can currently support,.

Carrara can handle most of DS's features,in some way through the DUF format,. with the exception of some third party DS plug-ins.
Exporting is only feasible if the content of the Carrara scene you're exporting can be handled by Daz studio.

it' a backward step, since Carrara has more features,. but for many users it's more about using the program they've learned, which is DS.

As Wendy suggests,. exporting to Daz Collada,. or another model format, is possible with limitations,. but simply rebuilding your figure and clothing in DS is probably quicker , much easier, and a lot less hassle.

    :)

How do you know that? Are you in touch with Daz's development team? Just curious.

    HI Argus :)

I've not programmed anything seriously since the early 1980's so, no,. I'm not a programmer.

How I know this is quite simple. There was a "Public" beta testing process,.
So, we all got to see what was being updated and worked on, and tested each new feature.
If you remember, there were a couple of "BIG" gaps in the semi-regular beta releases.

we were told that because of the new DSON format, and the Genesis weight-mapping, the programming route which the developers had taken ,. to "plug things in" wasn't going to work,. and the alternative had been to back track, and build these in a different way.

    Hope it helps :)

Thanks. It does help. I sleep better now.
