Texture shaded messed up

in The Commons
for some reason my screen representasion of texture shaded is completly mono color without definition as though there is no lighting. Figures are black, props and animals something else.
Cartoon shaded and Nvidia work as before. (See attachments)
This started after I attempted to load ROGs Red Crow in. I'm assuming because of the complexity of Red Crow something was turned off by the
file but darned if I can figure out what.
Ideas?

I cured the problem by reseting to factory default. BUT I would still like to know what caused it.

One possible cause is the camera that has been chosen in the viewport, perspective view should show the textures, even when a camera doesn't
