    thank you MistyMist,

here is a couple of other outcomes by "unbiased" Iray and Fluidray; about Iray I love it, but it's pretty usual (but unusual for an unbiased engine) tweak and play around a lot to take control over shadows and albedo.

Last but no least, another try in carrara

    Fluidray?

the iray version barely shows the arches shadow

the iray output is clearly overexposed but this is what I get with quick camera and light settings; realistic but flat. need to know more about iray

about fluidray, powerful but not very fast (cpu only) and the learning curve isn't steep at all

    Where is SpongeBOB Square Pants???

  • evilproducerevilproducer Posts: 9,050

    Here!

Since SpongeBob Squarepants lost his employment through the unfortunate death of Mr Crab's, he has had to take work on the seedier side of Bikini Bottom. He now spends his days as a tattooist, inking has-been commercial endorsers.

On the distant planet Yuggoth, Great Cthulhu took a vacation.

But all good things must come to an end and so The Old One poured his last R'lager and hopped in his 3x3 Funcat made of finest Tok'l-metal specially imported from The Lost City of Garee, and headed home to resume his slumbers.

CGBytes is having a Sixus1 Rally, and since I just gt his Cthulhu to ward off Angels and stuff, I figured I'd play.

Lots of fractals in this one - textures, 3D Objects, and backdrop. The Beer Mug was from Share CG.

And don't worry, there is a cow in this picture, but it activated it's cloaking device (or was it the Nose Ring of Invisibility?) when it saw Cthulhu drinking and driving!

Beautiful renders everybody.  I still haven't gotten into LuxCore.  Haven't figured out a way to craft my lighting in IRay like I can in Carrara (with lights that only affect one thing).

Here's my latest.  Calling this one "Lord High Castle".  Carrara native render w PS post work.  Bullet Physics cape.  Just lovin Carrara's Volumetric Clouds.

I just have seen a film about Hymalaya yesterday in a theater and seen the same type of mountains, I think here that your shadows are to bright, but the colour is exact.

Is it a terrain from Bryce ?

    Nice work, for shure !

  • DondecDondec Posts: 243

Thx Dudu.  That's a Carrara Terrain built from scratch with 4 levels (heights) of Terrain shader.  That was so fun to play with I may have to do more of these.  All that background stuff including the clouds took 2 days.  It was the clothed figure (G2M crashed Carrara due to memory bloat) and that grrr cape that took me like a week of head banging.  Finally went with Genesis which seems to have a much smaller memory foot print, and now I know why everybodies so hot for a decent Carrara cloth sim around here, lol.

    @Stezza, @Dondec , @cdordoni et @Roygee      thanks very much for your kindness  :)

Roygee I used Corel Painter 2016 to do the post work on the Carrara  render  by hand work -  as opposed to general layer work .

On a waccom I drew the character outlines and the did the shading.

In a different layer and I went over the coloured areas with a Gouache brush with high feature (gave the scratches) converted to a clone brush - so that it will pick up some of the underlying image.

Then I added a colour overlay layer and added a surface texture to that. IYou set parameter of layer to 'overlay" then fill it with a mid grey (you should see no change in the underlying picture if the grey is right)

You then use your paper texture in this Overlay layer. That way you can change the texture without wrecking the image.

The interesting thing was changing the stroke attributes in a new layer to either Screen or Multiply. You paint in one layer to bring up the highlights and also darken the shadows.

I dropped down the colour saturation of the image by adding another layer (parameter colour) filled with a sepia tone and adjusted opvcity to suit

there was something else to say but I forgot !

    hope you are well :)

EDit: I remember what I was going to say : Norman Rockwell (?) once said," if you get the hands and faces right, they will forgive you the rest" - so that is what it is about :)

Thank you for the explanation - knew there had to be genuine hand work in there - too good for automated processes.  Has to rank right up there with the best I've seen on these pages:)

I really must get a tablet!

I'm great, thanks - not too happy abou the cricket, but well done Oz:)

  • HeadwaxHeadwax Posts: 9,987

thanks!!  and my pleasure  Roy :) who is playing cricket? do you mean that we won something ? let me go and google :)

I just bought a surface pro 4, now I cannot afford to eat !

  • DondecDondec Posts: 243

surface pro comes with a pen or has the option to get one I think. I'd be curious if you can do hand painting accurately with it, edge to edge. That was a problem in early generation hybrids, the pen accuracy around the edges was bad (to non existent).

    found this  smileysmileysmiley http://www.fluidray.com/help/
    doesn't say anything about animating.

the render engine i  dream of is vray.  last time i checked the vray standalone renderer was 500americangreenbacks.

Wow - this is really cool.  Thanks for sharing!

  • Thank you all for the nice words.

This is the first time I used Sparrowhawke3D's Distance Falloff shader plugin to render depth pass, behaves much more predictable in Fusion (Depth Blur node) than Carrara's native pass smiley

  • HeadwaxHeadwax Posts: 9,987

nice work FifthElement, and thanks for the headsup on the distance  falloff shader = does it work with transmaps (eg polymesh hair)  by chance?

Hi Don, the surface pro 4 comes with the new pen. The pen is very good - but it doesnt pick up tilt or direction. There is no lag unless you are maxing out the hardware.

Its very accurate on the edges.

The only negative with the new surface is that that the touch screen and touch pad Zoom controls work intermittently in Corel Painter 2016.

Havn'ttried it with Carrara as I bought it just to do post work away from the 'studio'.

The Program Radial Menu makes it a joy to work with and helps negate the lack of screen real estate (big difference compared to my usual 24 inch monitor)
