Contents after reinstall Windows

For easy to understand I am providing information as a time table:

Contents installed from Daz Store using DIM and content files installed to D:Dazruntime

|

My PC gone crazy suddenly

|

Reinstalled Windows (only option, all options safe mode, system restored failed)

|

Windows installed at C:

|

Installed DIM and installed default contents along with Daz Studio

|

D:Dazruntime is still available with lot of files because installing Windows only affected C: and nothing happened to D:

Now I want to know is there any way to use those installed contents or I need to download again?

Comments

  • You should have no problem using them through the Content Library pane, once you have D:Dazruntime set as a content directory (quick way is to right-click on Daz Studio Formats>Add New Base Directory, and right-click on Poser Formats>Add new Runtime Directory). You can also reimport metadata (Content DB Maintenance from the Content Library pane option menu - the line button in the top corner, or right-click the tab).

What you can't do, unless you have a back-up (check C:/Windows.old/Users/Public/Documents), is tell Install manager what it installed as - bt default - it keeps its records in the Daz Install manager/Manifests folder

I added this folder using DIM settings but DS not treating these contents as installed contents.

Instead of content library how to restore those contents as Smart Content. Those were all Smart content one day ago.

Forgot to mention fortunately I have copy of 'DAZ 3D' and 'My DAZ 3D Library' folder though I lost 'My Library' with lot of render settings and poses etc. created by me.

Had you done any windows or driver updates prior to the craziness? Mine got so bad it wouldn't even boot to safe mode. BSOD galore mostly relating to drivers. Apart from nvidia I let windows handle everything else. Wondering if this has been a common occurrence with the latest round of updates.

Yes it happened after or during last auto update.

Drive you mad doesn't it. Makes you think is it worth having a 60gb ssd just for windows and absolutely nothing else, so you can reinstall easily after each cocked up update.

Reinstalling software also very boring and time consuming. Specially if the software is DS or UE etc.

I'm not sure what you mean - that is the Ready to install tab, that shows the zips in the current package Archive folder (click the gear icon and select Advanced Settings). That isn't the question I was addressing.

Looks like those folders messed up. This time I will save those .zip files for backup. Any tips for how to backup properly? So that I can install smart contents offline in future if anything bad happen again.

  • Just make a copy of the Package Archive folder, wherever it is - you can move it off the C: drive.
