UV Editing mode

Hi all,

Can anyone please lead me to a proper tutorial on how to use this? I can not understand it or figure things out in it.

I need it to be on something like a house or a wall or something regular like this as I work on such things.

So appreciated for the help.

    Have a look at my wip thread - http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/42612/ If that's the kind of thing you want to uv map, I'll try and make a video of the next part I do (probably one of the little houses on the left in the last picture)

    I can't promise it'll be any good, and I'm certainly no expert, but I'll happily show you how I do it, for what that's worth. :)

    Even though the following is from an old version of Carrara, you might find it useful. It is by AW Benson.

    It's not free, but Infinite Skills Advanced Carrara Techniques training videos, taught by our very own Phil Wilkes, has a fine set of thorough stages on the process. The link takes you to a post that contains some sample videos. Unfortunately none of them are of the UV Mapping sessions, but they'll at least give an example of how nicely he teaches.
    The course takes you for a lengthy educational series on many of the advanced modeling and scene creation techniques as well as useful shader making lessons, particles... it's an excellent investment!
    Within the post linked to above is a link to the product as well.

    Yes mate I have seen this one before but not sure it covers the proper uv mapping for a texture mapped on face and you are trying to do it properly.

    Good modelling mate but as you see I need seriously a tutorial to talk about the UV of different faces.

    HI Mo-Fahmi :)

    It's unlikely that you'll find a UV mapping tutorial which will cover texturing figure faces (heads)
    Many "Figure" texturing tutorials cover the entire figure.

    UV mapping is simply telling the 2D program, HOW and WHERE to "project" the 2D textures onto the model.

    so the way that you do that, depends of two things,. How YOU want to apply the textures,. and How your model is constructed.

    the basic principles of UV Mapping are the same in all programs.
    For figure faces, you'll normally want to define seams and Unwrap the model.

    I do not deal with figures at all and not interested in them, all I do is architecture and interior stuff.

    As you said all the programs are the same (but hugely differentiate in the tools as you know) to achieve that.

    I was searching last night for 3ds max tutorials in that subject and found tones of them, I this I now understand a little better now and might do a tutorial for what I know now and might search and dig more for more info.

    Many thanks mate and wish you do a tutorial if you can to show how to use the tools in the UV field of the program.
