question about x,y,z, translations

if I rotate an object, then go into an orthographic camera view and drag my object along an axis it drags the object but also adjusts to raise or lower itself with the rotation which I don't want.

for instance I rotate an object on the y axis 45 degrees, switch to top view, pull the object along the x axis handle the object moves across the x translation but it's also adjusting itself along the y translation which I don't want. I think this is known and relative and global positioning. Is there a way to adjust this so it's one or the other?

    Try going to the Tool Settings pane and at the top tell it to use the world axes.
