Hi.

4 years after the initial episode 1 of Sci Fi Funk, I get to light it properly and add the intro and outro I would have liked to do back then (but didn't have the knowledge of how to).

I am pleased to present the re-render of episode 1.

Improvements over version 1.

1. OCTANE Render vs DAZ native renderer.
2. Realistic lighting
3. DOF.
4. 1920x1080 from 1280x720
5. Animated intro. Titles improved.
6. Animated outro. Talking titles.
7. Slow sections Cut faster.
8. Camera sweep ratio reduced.
9. Hologram Girl more dramatic.

I've kept most of the original animation (no time to change this I over ran by 2 months as it is it should have been a 1 month project).

The latest in the series is here.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOzGq9Lw7Wg (Carrara render).

For the curious here is the original episode 1

    very ambitious.
don't forget to make your models blink or they can look very rigid.

Man, that's very nice. And in Octane, and the rendering takes a lot less, too.

Thanks nDelphi. imho Rendering can be really fast outdoors, but indoors you have to know what you are doing to get speed. Overall it's certainly not slower than Carrara (without GI), given that to get a similar effect in Carrara you'd have to have GI running then it WAAAY faster!

    Vs DAZ much much faster

    Hooray!

Welll Steve, finally watching all your tutorials because I bought Octane for DAZ studio the other day
well some of them anyway, I am not a great tutorial watcher but I love your accent
Carrara will wait as I love its native render engine but 3Delight leaves me dying of boredom rendering one image s l o w l y

Wendy. I'm delighted to hear you've made the leap into unbiased rendering. imho (I know I'm talking on a DAZ board here so don't shoot the messenger eh?), I would get the Octane plugin for Carrara - It's much more stable than DAZ. Esp since the public beta came out. I've been giving it a thorough work out and the Developer "Sighman" has been responsive to put in fixes for the most serious bugs.

At this point in time we are left with only one serious bug (at least for what I do) and that is CTRL-D replication doesn't work (yet) but it's coming. I mean it works but not as an instance so many of my large scenes won't fit.

If I've sold you on this idea (spent some more of your money for you - oops :) ) then there are a few of us core users over on the OTOY boards. I hope to mods don't delete my post as I should add I'm still active on the Carrara boards over here. When the DAZ plug in reaches 2.0 I'll be interested in completing my re-rendering of episode 2 - but I was starting to howl at the screen with all the crash outs I was getting.

I think you are safe, Daz still owned Carrara last time i checked
I still love my carrara too, just wanted to do more with the HD stuff mainly which up to date does not work in carrara.
I will still be com-positing stuff with carrara backgrounds I reckon, just rendering characters mostly to stick on planes in forground etc

Fair dos Wendy, I was just warning you that Carrara (beta) @ Octane (2.0) is much more stable than DAZ (beta) @ Octane (1.2).

I'm curios. HD stuff in DAZ which Carrara doesn't do?

Oh Ok thanks. So HD is related to Genesis 2 then? Suddenly I feel so out of date (shudders).

Your characters certainly look crisp and defined. :)
