Applying maps in Daz to Blender-Lightwave.obj meshes?

First, I'll preface that the only thing that I know how to do with Blender is to create meshes. Beyond that, I'm clueless.

I tried to create a new prop for DS 4.6 in Blender 2.71. I built the mesh, exported it to a Lightwave .OBJ file, and then imported it to Daz. This is something I've done before, and had some success applying shaders to Blender-created props in the past, however this time, I didn't want a shader, I wanted diffuse, bump and opacity maps from an image that I created in Photoshop.

I won't go through all the things that I tried before the next step, because they had no effect whatsoever: There is a shader called "Apply first in DS4" - I used that to strip away any Blender material settings, then saved the .obj as a .duf prop asset.

Then I applied the maps, made sure that diffuse/opacity/bump strength and bump depths were well-defined. There was no clear difference, except when I started to play with the tiling settings, a "shadow" would occasionally cross the prop. However, I could not discern any pattern, and test renders showed nothing. The opacity map wouldn't even cause transparency.

I'm at a loss for what to do next. What will it take to make this prop accept a map?

I think you mean Wavefront object. Did you UV map the model?

I attempted to at one point, but my lack of experience with Blender caused me to abort the process. Whether the incomplete attributes followed the object into Daz is unknown to me.

However, the problem existed equally in all attempts before and after UV mapping.

That must be the problem. I should learn how to UV map...

You need to UV map the model. If the model isn't to complex Blender's Smart UV Project should do an okay job, otherwise you will have add seams and do it the hard way.

Without UV mapping the model, and setting up material zones the way you want them to be it will not work the way you want it to.

YOu may also want to try using FBX for exporting the model as DAZ Studio can import FBX
