Any good tutorials on the Weight Map tool?

I'm looking primarily at using it for D-Formers, as the old spheres are a pita to get precise influence with. I'm not trying to paint maps for bends/etc.

I've fuddled around with it some, and been able to select by face (similar to the PGE), but I can't figure out how to get it to do things like fill the selected region with a gradient from one side to another (or how you even specify the start end end 'sides'). The other tools beside the polygon selector seem to do nothing when I try painting over faces. I've been selecting faces in subsections and manually filling with decreasing strength, but this is tedious to say the least.

So anyone have pointers to a good tutorial on how to use the Weight Map tools in Studio?

Thanks

The Node Weight Brush tool has several modes, including pseudo fall-off spheres and gradients. You need to have the Tool Settings pane open to make full use of the tool.

For something that basic the wiki would probably have sufficient info for you to work out the weightmapping tool.

The best tutorials I have seen on weightmapping for DS are the ones by Blondie in the store here but they would have more info than you would need I think.

To convert a sphere to weightmapping you can select the sphere and in the scene tab click on arrow menu in the top right corner.

Select edit/rigging/convert prop to figure that will give you a sphere with a single bone. When you look at it using the Node weight map brush it is fully red on all the rotations. I'm not sure if that would achieve what you need though.

edited to add: If you put the sphere in the workspace and go straight to the Weight map tools you will still need to provide at least one bone. When I tried it would allow me to paint. You can also right click in the workspace with the tab for joint editor open and it will allow you to convert from prop to figure there or create your own bones. I've never tried it that way though...I use the convert to figure option to convert hairs to other figures and save them as wearable items.
