I used a fair bit of Face mojo in this promotional video for a forth coming HDRI set.
As a first test of it finally working right, I can see how it can be helpful. It works, but better instructions and also a synopsis of how FBX files are captured and work would be a good idea. Without it being clear, I though maybe it operated like Adobe Character Animator and used your computer to capture the motion. The fact you need to buy a $50 app for your phone is imperative information.
yeah the 1K iphoneX + the app
hopefully oneday there will be a webcam solution
if Laylo can create one I would buy it
Has anyone tried to export these keyframes as a pose preset animated sequence and tried to import them to a character in Blender with the diffeomorphic tool's import action button? I can never get facial expressions to export correctly with the animated sequence to diffeomorphic, but maybe this might have a different way it's saved or something.
Does this work with or will there be an update for Genesis 8.1? tx
Just tested this for the first time. 1) You add your figure 2) import your FBX from the Face Cap Software 3) select both and run a script dsb
When I load up an 8.1 character the script says this figure is not supported.
No idea if it ever will be.
Thanks for testing. Hopefully the PA will pop in to let us know if there's an update in the works.
I hadn't realized it didn't work for Genesis 8.1. I will submit an update to Daz ASAP. Once the update is submitted I'm not sure how long it will take to go live. I've had updates go live in as little as a couple of days and some take as long as a few months. Hopefully it won't take too long.
I believe Face Mojo uses currently two iphone apps [Face Cap & iFacialMocap] for sourcing the motion capture files.
If yes is there any diference between these two apps other than one is free and the other cost some dollars?
Thanks;)
That is correct, it currently supports those two apps.
I don't think either one is free. One has a free trial that limits the recording to 3 or 4 seconds. The main differences is that Face Cap offers better calibration and smoothing options.
I am also almost finished with my own iOS app which I hope to release in 3-4 weeks. It will have calibration and smoothing options as well and cost $10-20.
I just submitted an update to Daz that adds support for Genesis 8.1 and has new smoothing options. I was also able to shorten the baking time drastically by changing the background progress bar. I hadn't realized the progress bar was substantially slowing down the baking progress.
Hopefully Daz will be able to review it and push the update to their servers soon.
Thanks for all your support and feedback!
That's great news about your own iOS app - i have still been using the 3-4 second trial version, trying it out and such. Also glad to hear about the Genesis 8.1 update!
Hi Laylo! Just bought/downloaded Face Mojo for Genesis 8 Male. But for some reason, the only sliders that show up for me are the eye controls and head rotation tuning. Would you happen to know what might be the issue with the other sliders/controls not showing up?
So is Face Mojo going to be updated to allow use with Victoria 8.1?
Hi! Thanks for using my products! You'll find the other controls in Actor/Face Mojo.
Yup! The update should have went live Feb. 25th.
This looks fantastic!
Does anyone know if this works with the official Blender Bridge addon?
That is, after I've set everything up properly in Daz (I've imported the recorded facial motion from my iPhone and applied it to my G8 character), can I export said Genesis 8 character to Blender using the Blender Bridge, and have the facial animation exported along with it, just like any other animation would? Or is there a catch?
Agree having this addon locked to having an iPhone/iPad to use it is a bit much.. I to would think about it if there was a webcam/gopro version..
Is the Face Mojo iOS app still incoming?
Yes, I just submitted it to Apple for review today!
Thank you Laylo for this incredible tool. So I come to think, is something similar could be developped for the entire body ? MoCap with DAZ would be propelled to another level !!
I love this idea. Maybe not even the entire body, but just the neck and shoulder would be awesome.
I've actually been playing around developing an app that would allow a person to record body mocap with their phone, but so far the results I've been getting have some issues. For example, sometimes the leg will twist 180 degrees and then pop back, all the mocap is somewhat jitterry, and the feet can appear to kind of slide around some on the ground. I think the technology isn't quite there for perfect sensorless motion tracking.
I don't know if people would still be happy with those limitations. I could probably have the app clean it up some, but more than likely it would still require some manual clean up.
Already cleaned up .fbx files from mocap suits couldn't be adapted directly into DAZ thanks to a plugin ? Because the current workflow is messy. But yeah, I guess it's a small niche and you wouldn't get an interesting return on investment as the developer.
I like the concept, I wish there would be smth similar for decent cameras. Keep up the innovative spirit LayLo 3D. :)
I'm super excited to announce that the official Face Mojo iOS app has been released! Check it out here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/face-mojo/id1546692330#?platform=iphone
The only thing is this was my first time submitting an app to Apple's App Store and I wasn't sure how to time the release of the app with an update for the Daz Studio plug-in, so until the latest update goes live (I already submitted it to Daz) it actually doesn't have the script needed to apply the animation from the Face Mojo iOS app lol. The reason being my app uses a different file type to store the recorded motion capture data in keeping the files sizes a lot smaller.
I'm more than happy to send the script to anyone who would like to use it before the update goes live. Just email me at laylo3d@gmail.com and I can send it to you.
I will also be creating videos showing how to use the new app and apply the animation to your favorite Daz 3D characters this week along with written instructions. Sorry they weren't available at launch, Apple's app review process is a lot faster than I expected, my bad.
Thanks for using my products, I hope you like the new app!
Congrats! Just bought the app - I'm super excited to try it out!
Well so much for being able to use this, I don't have an Apple phone and my current phone would not be able to handle this.
I thought this was goign to be set up to be used with a web cam as well?
Thanks! I just emailed you back with the script. Enjoy!
Hi! I'm sorry that at this time it requires either an iPhone or iPad. I would like to support more devices. I'm starting to work on an Android version, but at this point I can't guarentee anything. I'm not sure about being able to use web cams yet, I haven't researched what it would take, but I think they would be the hardest to support. :(
