Be aware of An issue with Paramount Lights.

So I got Paramount lights and its camera set. I liked the cameras and used them on a project for a client I was rendering overnight. These are cover sizes of 1400 x 2125, so big render. Got it into Photoshop and the image was 1000 pixels wide--about half the size I need, and too small to blow up without pixelation.

The render dimesions according to the render settings panel   were correct. I was losing my mind trying to figure out what the issue was--I have TWO covers due today.

So I tried to change the render settings. Realized the cameras default to that size no matter what you set the render settings to.

Creators, please don't do that. I have a couple of different products that change your render settings, but I have never had one that ignores the render dimensions completely. And worse, which gives you a false dimensional setting.

Now I'm rerendering and am behind on two projects with a hard deadline.

  • Cameras can, by design, override the scenme settings - useful for using a single scene in different ways - but if that wasn't mentioned in the read me it probably should be so I'd suggest a ticket.

I'm sure the PA thought it was adequately described. If the cameras do not have local dimensions, then the scenes won't be replicated,

This isn't a product issue. looks more like a case of not readin/understanding the Product Description.

From the product description: "As a bonus, the scenes that were used to create promotional art for this product are also included. Simply add the figure of your choice to complete the scene!

    "Scenes:

    • 1 Preset Scene with Props and Cameras
    • Bonus: 8 extra scenes included (as shown in the seven portraits above"

When the product mentions scenes and cameras, it's a fairly sure bet that the cameras have loal dimensions. Local dimensions for cameras have long been a part of Studio. For example, AFAIK, Stonemason's included cameras/scenes alwys have local dimensions.

User's need to read and understand the product descriptions.

  • Well, if I would give manual render setting I wouldn't expect the cameras to override the pixel size. Manual should always override pre-existing settings.

  • More recent Stonemason products have render presets that set the size, rather than using local dimensions on the camera. I don't know whether this is coincidence, because Stefan decided it was easier this way, or because people got confused about the cameras using local dimensions. Knowing about local dimension settings is good, but I vastly prefer when vendors don't use them, and have render presets instead. Or, like suggested, they could start stating in the description or readme that they are using cameras with local dimensions on, since it is not reasonable to assume every camera preset does this.

  • This is the only light set I have bought in years. The product page made it look as easy as "Point and Click." Now I am quite disappointed. I'll look for another light set.

PA who include render settings generally mess with settings they have no business to, like canvases.  All they would need to do is uncheck the boxes, but that seems to be too much trouble.

I humbly suggest PTF Legendary Lights. I've bought several light sets over the years, but usually I test them once and move on. I've used these lights 3 times in the week since I purchased them, and I'm very pleased with the results. I just select the character in the Scene tab, load the lights, render, and Loooking Goood! I haven't even used the render settings yet.

Stonemason showed me about cameras defeating Render Settings. So, the last thing I do before pressing Render is to check ALL of my Camera and Render Settings. This is the failsafe.

Not the way Studio cameras work.

  • Last time I checked, there was no evidence that the light set even worked. I looked in the Scene pane, and saw no evidence of lights at all.

The lights are a set of emissive props, a plane, a disk, and a backdrop.  You load them, apply materials to make them emissive including color temperature and intensity, and pose them.  I used the set's default HDRI, loaded the new Pedro character, posed him, used the emissive plane and disk, and rendered:

    What happened when you rendered?
