    is octane easier than luxus?

I think so because I cannot even figure out most of Luxus if it even wirks, Octand is fully integrated in the UI.

but it's dear and you need a reasonable Nvidia card.

Here's some experiments in compositing carrara elements onto a real photo from a few years ago

Nice realism, HW.  Would make a good Challenge theme. :)

So far this year I have avoided any virus-themed renders.  Weirdly decided to do a couple.  Here is the first:

    Thanks Wendy!

It started out as a medieval painting render, as I have been in that mode lately.  Is there a category for "medieval painting cartoon?"  smiley

The gal is Stephanie Petite.  I spent a bunch of time getting her textures just right, to make a serious render... then turned the whole thing into a comedy. surprise  It included some postwork - the caption at the bottom.  A GMIC filter was adding artifacts to the letters, so I had to use PSE.

The next render should be ready tomorrow to mark the end of this distrubing year.  Hope it doesn't upset anyone.

  • Hi all, I havn't been doing anything in Carrara for a while but after buying a few things today and seeing some pictures you've all been doing I'm getting back into it. Here's one I did a while back.

Headwax - that original pic - is soo close to photo real. The animator in me wants to see a little camera movement to fool the eye (no characters in shot that would add to the complexity)

Just a little camera movement / blur as it moves and it's perfection!

    Great image.

Good riddence to 2020.  Excellent image.  Masks could make a good challenge theme.

Thanks, the 30's delivery trick wasn't quite up to moonshine running so I lowered the roof and dropped in the motor from Dudleys GT40, made some lights and a very simple retexturing job. Pinched the wheels from the 50's luxury car.
  • Thanks Diomede.

Freelight, nice realism!  What did you use for lighting?

Hope you stick around, and maybe enter the next Carrara Challenge.

Thanks UnifiedBrian, if I remember rightly I started with one of the logo hdri presets in Carrara and then built the lighting on top of that, thats why there isn't any reflection on the glass, together with there not being anything behind the camera. I still like to use an old school light dome with a hdri to help give more control over subtle lighting, 40 or 50 infinites set to 1 or 2 with a soft shadow.

Hope you get it all sorted out quickly.

I did a quick scifi scene to test one of the HDRs that comes with an Iray product.  HDR by Kindred Arts and spaceship by Petipet.  I changed all the spaceship shaders and also inserted 3-point lighting at half strength.

Thanks. smiley Yeah, it's not my first one. Just the first one I've posted here. I originally tried to use sky light and full indirect lighting for this one, but after 30+ hours of render time, I gave up and faked sky and bounce lighting with a bunch of distance lights. It rendered in like 4 minutes then. Carrara's native trees really do a number on render time when using full indirect lighting.
