Michael 4 / Victoria 4 to Genesis 8 Converter
Is there a program that can convert an alternate M4/V4 character model skin texture or however you call it to a Genesis 8 model?
I've just got some converts which change from G2 to G8 models and another from G3 to G8. Do converters apply to body morphs as well (not sure if that's included as part of the conversation)? What about hair and clothing?
If not are there any current programs you can recommend for baby steps between programs perhaps? For example M4 to genesis. then to G2 or G3 to G8?
please let me know
Thank you for your time

Thank you very much I'll check it out!
Ok I bought the Legacy UVs for Genesis 8: Michael 4 Sku: 47965 and am trying to transfer the texture from this free Vincent model by hellboy soto (it's totally awesome from the old 1990s TV series very life like).
Here's the link if you'd like to get it too: https://www.deviantart.com/hellboysoto/art/SOTO-s-Vincent-for-The-Freak-4-278560825
and an alternate link: https://www.sharecg.com/v/48588/view/11/Poser/SOTOs-Vincent-for-The-Freak-4
Initially I think Soto made the model with Freak 4 mods in mind but changed it so you only need michael 4. I loaded the genesis 8 model, double clicked the prep script, then attempt to apply the textures and double click the apply script but nothing is happening. Also the Morphs don't load either, they give the body the "physical appearnce" of the beast, I think they are freak 4 based, but I'm not sure.
1. Can anyone test this out for me and see what I'm doing wrong? Perhaps I'm using the wrong type of converter? or maybe it's not compatable with the morph/injection and if so what can I do about this, perhaps a different converter?
I'd really like to move this character over to the genesis 8 model. Any asistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time.
Legacy UVs enable you to use textures, they won't do anything about morphs.
You need to re-save the materials in .duf format first before you can apply them to G8M with the legacy UVs.
Morphs will need to be converted to G2M or G3M with GenX and its add-ons, then from G2M or G3M to G8M with either Xtransfer or RSSY character converters.
WHY DO THEY MAKE THIS SO COMPLICATED GRRRRRRRR
To be fair, it wasn't complicated when it was released and for the figure it was designed for. You are making it complicated by trying to use it on another figure and luckily some PAs created some addons for us to be able to transfer these things to other figures..
I'd like to say Thank you for the reply It's appreciated and I'll try to investigate the programs(?) you mentioned in Daz and see when I can get them. I really want to move Vincent to G8M So it will look potentially better and have more options overall including clothing etc...as I tend to get more gen 8 models/bundels.
That being said, I'm surpised one of the daz orginal or Vendor Associates haven't made a one click convert program for this yet. It's money in the bank!
So let me repeat this to make sure I understand:
First: https://www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-8-michael-4 does NOT convert M4 Textures, it merely PREPARES the G8M model to Recieve the Texture so it will Fit the G8M properly?
Second: I need to get the Vincent textures/materials and convert them to .duf format so then I can apply them to the Prepared G8M Legacy UV model.
-How do I convert material files such as !!Vincent_Mat.pz2 to the DUF format? These are what I found so far:
- https://www.daz3d.com/m4-skins-batch-converter-to-genesis-2-male-s which requires ---> https://www.daz3d.com/michael-4-for-genesis-2-male ***Not sure if this will this be an issue. I'm not seeing any M4 to G3M converters. Will G2M textures work on the Legacy G8M prep?***
- https://www.daz3d.com/michael-4-skins-auto-converter-for-genesis-2-male-s which also requires the above M4 for g2m seems to be by same person but not sure what the difference is since they both seem to beable to batch convert. Can anyone explain the difference? I must be missing something.
***I've included the V4 versions here incase someone was interested***
- https://www.daz3d.com/v4-skins-batch-converter-to-genesis-2-female-s which requires--> https://www.daz3d.com/victoria-4-for-genesis-2-female
Third: I need to convert the Morphs/add-ons for M4/Freak4 vincent to a G2M/G3M via GenX: so these programs
- https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-generation-x2 to-->
- https://www.daz3d.com/genx2-addon-for-genesis-2 or https://www.daz3d.com/genx2-addon-for-genesis-3 (I suggest G3M as Xtransfer App below does only G3 to G8)
- These might be required, though not sure: https://www.daz3d.com/v4-and-m4-shapes-for-genesis & https://www.daz3d.com/generation-4-legacy-shapes-for-genesis-2-female
***This one is just extra conent incase someone was interested: https://www.daz3d.com/genx-addon-gen3-bundle ***
Using the Above programs you now have a G3M Morph then convert AGAIN to G8M Morph via Xtransfer:
- https://www.daz3d.com/xtransfer--genesis-3-to-genesis-8-converter ***I Couldn't find any G2M to G8M converters so Make sure to convert to G3M***
-I tryed looking up the RSSY products (which look wicked awesome) but the focus for them was more on autofiting Hair/Clothing and Iray/3Delight convertion. I saw no character morph conversions but maybe I misread something, please feel free to correct me on this and Add a link here so others have access to it too!
Finally your ready to combine Everything...(so I assume)
Take Legacy UV apply to Gen 8 (prep) + converted mats/textures to .duf format + Converted Morphs/add-ons (injections?) = Vincent on Gen 8 model?
Lastly (assuming I wrote this properly and everything converts over smoothly) what is the best way to go about "saving" the character to avoid having to do all t his work again? Should I be making extra save folders for all these mats/textures/morphs etc....where do they get stored (do I store them?) will they show in smart content in future? I'd like to save it as a future "Actor" or character.
Thanks to the brave soul who ventures to answering this post.
Sincerely,
Cheetahka.
I'm just going to address a couple of parts.
Correct.
This is actually the simple part of the entire process.
You will now have a copy of the materials in a DUF file, and you won't need to buy anything to get to that point. (Other than Michael 4 himself, which it looks like you already own.)
https://www.daz3d.com/character-converter-from-genesis-2-male-to-genesis-8-male-
https://www.daz3d.com/character-converter-from-genesis-2-female-to-genesis-8-female-

The above items are MORPHS-ONLY CONVERTERS. They do not work on textures.
To get G2M textures to work on G8M, you would need: https://www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-8-genesis-2-male-michael-5-and-michael-6
That product works for actual G2M textures.
The batch converter doesn't change M4 textures into G2M ones, it only creates presets to apply M4 textures to "G2M with M4 UVs". Those presets should work with the "legacy UVs M4 for G8M".
The "auto converter" is a script used to apply a non-duf M4 preset to G2M with M4 UVs. You would use it each time you want to apply a pz2 preset. That saved you time if you had forgotten to do the conversion to duf.
The "batch converter" was created after the "auto converter". Its goal is to convert a bunch of pz2 / ds / dsa material presets for M4 (for example all presets for a M4 character) into duf that can be applied to G2M with M4 UVs.
You need both of those add-ons if you want to convert to G3M.
Easiest way would probably be to save a scene subset with the character in it and merge that into your scene next time you want to use him.
okay, so for an experiment, I converted the !!Vincent_Mat.pz2 into !!Vincent_Mat.Duf using Vwranglers Save method listed above. I loaded an M4 model applied the Legacy UVs for Genesis 8: Michael 4 and then loaded the texture. This is what I got https://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#images/1096462/
I'm not sure what changing the Pz2 file to Duf does other than make it the current DAZ3D format... I still need to convert the texture to G8M texture correct?
You need to use the material preset on both G8M and the Legacy UVs geografts (the black zones).

There is a PDF manual at the lower part of the page (in Additional Details)
Ah ty PerttiA, I'd origially went to the main folder in Daz3d library but didn't see anything strange that they wouldn't add that to the folder.
Thanks Leana I'll give it a go!
Here we are! I applied as you said and this is the result:
https://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#images/1096497/
Next I'll work on the morph conversion.
BTW will this work for the hair that came with the model (M4) or is that yet another converter I need to nab (I hope not this is getting expensive lol).
No, this won't work for hair or clothes, they're neither morphs or a textures.
For hair you can usually get good results by simply parenting it:
If needed, use a bit if scaling or morphs to make it fit better
There is also a hair batch converter in the store: https://www.daz3d.com/rssy-hair-converter-from-michael-4-to-genesis-8-male
For clothing you can use autofit. The default G8M doesn't include a clone for M4, but Genesis 1 does and G8M has a clone for G1.
So you can do the following:
Since there are 2 conversion steps results may not always be good.
Other options:
M4/V4 clones for G8: https://www.daz3d.com/sy-victoria-4-and-michael-4-clones-for-genesis-8
Clothing batch converter: https://www.daz3d.com/rssy-clothing-converter-from-michael-4-to-genesis-8-male
Ok I'm getting a little overwhelmed on the morph conversion via the Genx2:
https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-generation-x2 + https://www.daz3d.com/genx2-addon-for-genesis-2 + https://www.daz3d.com/genx2-addon-for-genesis-3
downloaded and installed + http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/18321/start = PDF instructions http://docs.daz3d.com/lib/exe/fetch.php/public/read_me/index/18321/genx2.pdf which I tried my best to follow the 1.1. Quickstart 1: Transferring Morphs portion and attempted to change the morphs/injections to G3M so I can Convert it again with Xtransfer.
Now at this point I tried loading A base genesis 3 model to see if the G3M morphs worked, but after clicking the Shaping tab --> Generation x-->***people*** I slid the bars and I was able to get the face and hands/claws to work. Though the claws where kind of mangled on the fingers. Also I couldn't get the main body morph to load properly. Its slide bar, I assume the freak 4 monstrous, caused the figure to bulk up massively like freak 4, but wasn't maintaining the Vincent body figure.
On the orginal Vincent character, I would load M4, then the morphs, followed by the texture mats and hair. Not sure what I did wrong. Maybe I didn't load something properly, or is it because I used a base G3M (not the legacy varient with geographs- I wasn't attempting to add texture I was just attempting to test the morph. Any advice?
I would have posted a picture but daz3d crashed on me while fiddling with this attempt before I could save it and render a picture. Ill give it another go tomorrow and try posting the orginal vinicent along with the progression so far if I have a chance.
Thanks for your paients everybody
I don't know if this will help, but here's a method I used quite a long time ago (I have Freak 4, but you could omit that part):
