All options are not shown

"All options are not shown" is a sentence I often see in product descriptions and promo images here. Which always makes me re-read that sentence again, since it's totally wrong (except maybe if Yoda were to say it).
Simply put, that sentence says that there are no options shown in the promo images, since "not" refers to the word it preceeds, which is obviously not what is meant. Now, for proper English, just move the word "not" to the beginning of the sentence, and it will make more sense: "Not all options are shown". "Not" preceeds "all", which doesn't imply "none", but simply means less than everything. So in that manner, it will imply that options are show, but that there are also more options which are not shown.

Nope makes more sense to me than 'proper' english.

I guess I've gotten used to poor English. It has always felt very awkward to me, but I never really thought about it. Since I know that some options are shown, I just automatically correct it from saying no (none, nada, zip, zilch, zero) options are shown to "some options are shown" in my mind.

Now every time I see it I'll be "forced" to do a mental face-palm frown

It always makes me wonder why they aren't shown.  My guess is that the PA has some template for X options, and if they went crazy and made X+n options, then those n options are none of our business.

Usually because there are too many of them.

Sometimes we also cannot show them because Daz TOS won't allow them to be in promos. Or at least, that's the case with our products.

LOL, you right, that is an awkward sentence. I think it has something to do with advertisers always avoiding leading with a negative. That's bad for sales. Or so it's said.

That could be part of it. If they want to not lead with a negative, then maybe "Some options are not sown." might be much better??

Definitely, right after posting, I noticed Emrys actually used that one on the last promo image for Norina HD, and it really makes more sense.

I can't help but wonder which of the eyebrow colours didn't comply with the TOS.

Not sure in Fred's case but for me, i often dont show the presets included for the basic lie liner, french nail, the nail color remove, toe color remove, lip glossy, matte, lip default, lash default etc as well as all the utillity presets for normal/bump/spec/etc whic are technically 'options' included. Mostly because i only like showing the more custom stuff and not the 'basics' that are included because it clutters up promos or messes up my ocd alignment lmao.

Did anyone have trouble understanding what was meant?

I didn't, but I read a lot of messages and replies with awkward grammar, and these promos at least have context. (The context of showing off select options a product has.)

I think it may be because some PAs are not native English speakers ... and some are probably simply copying that statement without thinking about it.
