I've heard that DAZ 4.12.2 will support 3090. Now not. Then the question is when?

RTX 3090 is the next super exiting thing in my life. It should arrive here in this week or so. But now my heart almost stop after learning that DAZ Studio still doesn't support it because the team hasn't compile the new version, 4.12.2, yet. Is there any way to know when?

Comments

  • No. It will likely be in the public beta first so keep an eye on that.

Wait, didn't they had an iRay benchmark for 3090 somewhere? now Daz won't support it for a while? can anyone with a 3090 at hand confirm this?

DS isn't the only application that uses iray render engine.

4.12.2 is in private beta.  What happens in private beta stays in private beta.

...bugger, IM is "broken" for me so I cannot get betas. Updating to the newest version of the IM resets all my paths and preferences to default status (which is a pain as I have a custom library/runtime setup on a separate drive), installs the sign in .ini in the wrong location and puts the Manifest JSON file on my desktop.

This delay was also the case when they introduced the 2xxx series of nVidea. It took a few months before the technology was integrated into Studio. In an ideal world you'd have the update as soon as the release of the new card, but in a world of limited resources, it will take a certain time.

The new version of Iray that came out last month includes a whole bunch of changes alongside added Ampere support.  Daz had to incorporate all those changes, including the ones that have nothing to do with Ampere and now has to test it.

To the great majority of DS users, those other changes are more relevant than whether DS includes an Iray version that supports Ampere.

2000 series was hardly any delay for some support (but some parts of it was months though); 1000 series was weeks or months

Having been involved in beta testing comparable to what would be called private beta, and considering how recent the new version of Iray is, I would be amazed if public build (non-beta) with RTX30xx support will see the light of day before xmas, although that could be considered one deadline for obvious reasons.

Support for the 2000 was seriously quick; now admittedly it took months for Nvidia to provide support for all the features, but I seem to remember it being a couple or so weeks for the first release. I could be wrong though.

That's exactly what I want to know and it means much to me. Now I can sit back and wait till the next year. I hope that at that time amd X670 with USB 4.0 will come and I get it together with 3090. For the same price between now and a few months, I think I will have a very very different hardware specs. Thank you PerttiA!

If they can do it quick that would make the people with the new cards happy, but if the support has not yet been implemented in the public beta, considering it takes at least a couple of weeks for the public_beta_users to put it through the paces, not only in regards to the RTX30xx support but also making sure nothing else is seriously broken at the same time... Fixing the issues that will be found, testing again... Santa is coming quite soon...

I'm just speculating here of course as I'm not using even the public beta, some 5+ years was enough... Fine, you got the hardware and software before anyone else, but you couldn't tell anyone and when you got it close to working, it was released and you had to start again with new package that was quite useless to start with.

I'd anticipate the Ryzen 4000 CPU's hitting shelves in late October to early November but if there will x670 motherboards to go with them is as yet a mystery. So don't start counting on features just yet. There's a not insignificant chance they might just stick with x570/B550 till the Ryzen 5000's.

I would like to see how thrilling a home computer with Ryzen 4000 on USB 4.0 mainboard plus RTX 3090. Hope that 2021 is the key to the answer!

  • I'm looking forward to USB4 but there are as of yet no devices so even if Ryzen 4000 supports it it won't matter for quite a while.

  • Heck, by the tme 3090s are easily available, from what I understand, it'll probably give enough time for it to be supported. I'm in the market for a new PC and at this point I'm just waiting until I can get one without any hassles but man is it going to be awesome to use!

You mean PCIe 4.0?  PCIe 4.0 is the newest thing for high end motherboards.  All of the RTX 3000 cards (3090,3080) have support for PCIe 4.0, which is something new, but I read motherboard support is lacking from some manufacturers, like Intel.

He means USB 4. The latest approved USB spec that replaces Thunderbolt 3.

I haven't read anything about a new chipset (I think that'll be for Zen 4)?  At least I know you'll be able to put Zen 3 into an X570.

I won't have that but pretty close & it's made me really excited about computers for the 1st time since the 90s. I can't wait!

Ah, ok.  I didn't understand why USB would be revelant to a graphics card.

He definitely means PCIe 4, not USB 4. There's a big debate going on right now about pcie 3 v 4 that is relevant to GPU's.

I thought some eGPU configurations use USB 3.x but like you said he meant PCIe 4.
