Hello Dudes & Dudettes
Any gurus on SSS please share your thoughts.
On one of my renders I have gotten the overall effect I am after on the body, but around the head there are
a number of areas that have turned up as white.
Can I fix this with the SSS settings or am I looking at Paint-Shop-Pro after-work ?
Have included the render so you can see what I am talking about.
Many thank-yous to any-one who can help out.

make sure that surfaces with the same ID number have the same values for their shade rate and shade scale
And depending on the size of your render you may need to adjust the shading rate and scale.
Update & Work In Progress
Jestmart & Khory, many thanks for your advice, still need to refine/explore further but you have both steered me in the right direction !!!!!
Have got more to do on this critter (ears need attention), have added a couple of work-in-progress portraits for those who are interested.
After I have this critters skin sorted out, then I can do his wings, then to add him to the scene I am thinking of.
Hopefully will be a render worthy of gallery status.
Anyone who is staying clear of the Sub Surface Scattering it is well worth the learning curve for the extra quality it gives your renders.
I'm still on my learners plates but am now using the SSS wherever I can.
Island of Dr Moreau - Protoype SnakeMan Version 1 (still needs tidying up)
Anyone guess where this is going ?
As it is near 6am for me I am not super bright.. So my guess is a very odd zoo!
Hello Khory
Bit more like "Rumble in the Jungle - Island of Dr Moreau style"
Only very preliminary/early days yet, have had this in mind for a while, helps with the Creature Creator set for G2M.
May change it a bit as I go, trying to learn as I do as well !!!!!!
Many thanks for your & Jestmarts advice, allows me to get past what I was doing wrong and get onto the fun bit.
Still experimenting with the SSS, looks like heaps of applications for it.

At some point you may want to look at the specularity on your bird guy. He looks a big "satiny" . Did you use a specularity map with him? It could also be because he has such a high SSS.. BTW, I like that the SSS seems to give him a bit of an inner glow.
Hello Khory
Initially I had in mind the look similar to the coat of healthy Doberman, which has that slightly shiny look.
After adding some bling to the Gryphon he was almost outshining the bling so I toned him back as you suggested.
Looks a lot better.
Just need to add some bling to the sword, add some lie-wounds, then I can add the wings.
Then to choose one of the backgrounds I have in mind for the scene.
Many thanks for the advice, much appreciated and very welcome !!!!!!!
