How's About Browser Notifications, Daz?

Now I usually decline browser notifications, because it gets a bit much, but I wouldn't mind if Daz gave us the option to use them, and they sent notifications of sales.  Every hicktown newspaper uses notifications, so maybe Daz should consider it?

People have stuff to do.

What in addition to the Newsletters?

It's more for the flash sales than the daily newsletters.  We expect newsletters.  We don't know when to expect flash sales.

As there is a thread about Flash sales,  if you subscribe to it  by bookmarking it and set your preferences in your profile

so as to receive an ebot when someone posts to the thread, you will get notification.   https://www.daz3d.com/forums/profile/preferences/

Most of the time, you don't get emails when you're supposed to.  I'm not sure what your problem with a customer asking for notifications is.

You are posting in the forum,  which is peer to peer.  If you want to ask Daz then you need to file a ticket.

My intention here was to start a discussion, and perhaps generate interest in the idea.  If several people ask, Daz might give the idea more consideration.  If they want to attract a larger customer base, acting like a big boy website would be one way to show it.

I’ve always said Daz should have an app for iOS and Android with notifications. I always shop on my iPad anyway and if I’m not home, on my phone. Would be great to get notifications for flash sales and could shop directly from the app!

That's a terrible excuse for DAZ not notifying people about sales. It's just passing the responsibility to the customers/volunteers who run that thread instead of paid DAZ employees.

Also, you get an email once and then to get another you have to open the thread and catch up on it. If flash sales are only lasting 50 minutes, people may not have time to do that, especially if the email is delayed for any reason. Browser notifications could tell us right away. I have my forum notifications set to email me when someone comments on a bookmarked thread, however because I dozed off before I could open the email about the flash sale thread from this morning, I did not receive update notifications about two flash sales. I slept through the tutorial sale (unfortunate but not the end of the world), and just managed to catch the shader sale -- because the Daz-Deals extension sent me a flood of emails about new promos, and products hitting the price points I'd set.

Not DAZ, but a third-party extension. Literally every other site under the sun pesters me to let them send me browser notifications and I always laugh and tell them to go spin. DAZ is the one site I'd allow them for because of the frequent flash sales, yet for all their aggressive marketing that's one step they won't take.

Why use the term "we" when you are speaking for yourself? I personally hate popups and notifications and turn them off when I can. I don't get to play with my phone at work and neither do my employees. When I am online at home, I check the website. If I am doing something else, the last thing i want is a notification there is a flash sale since I probably won't be able to do anything about it since I am busy with something else. I hardly even check the newsletters DAZ sends to my email.

I know my daily routine and shopping habits are different from others, so i am cool with this idea as long as it is optional.

I'm speaking for everyone who knows to expect news letters and doesn't know when flash sales will pop up.  If you don't know to expect newsletters and do know when flash sales will pop up, then feel free to exclude yourself.

@FSMCDesigns I so agree.  I feel no need to have some app to notify me of Daz sales when I can go to the site and check.  As much as I like Daz, I can't imagine why I would need a popup or anything like that.  As a matter of fact, I unbookmarked the flash sale notification thread because of the constant notifications when people were just posting complaints and other nonsense.  And even though I don't get those notifications I haven't missed a sale yet.

  • I'd also like a browser notification option. I don't constantly check my email / phone and would like a browser notification for new sales.

I'd prefer an Android app with the option to have notifications for flash sales only. And I don't mean Fast Grab or the usual daily deals.

If not an app, then perhaps text messages - but again, only for actual flash sales.

I'm not always browsing the web to get notifications. But I almost always have my phone with me.

If you're on Windows there is this one, it runs in the background and can notify you within a minute when there are changes to the banner slider:

    http://taosoft.dk/software/freeware/sw-daz/

I can see though that recent changes on the DAZ site have broken it so I'm working on an update, should be ready tomorrow.

  • I hate, loath & despise with all my being website push notifications. If I were able to, I'd delete, erase and exterminate the person who invented them. You may gather, I wouldn't appreciate DAZ starting doing them.

    Richard

@Richardandtracy: That's a tad harsh, wanting to kill a person for that...

@Severin: You could install the DAZ Deals ADD on: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/106296/announcing-daz-deals-browser-add-on/p1

It does have (under email notifications) all sorts of email alerts, including Flash/Blink sales.

No one is ever forced to accept notifications, and websites always offer the choice.  I rarely touch alcohol, but I'm not asking for it be made unavailable to others.
