How to simplify landscapes for portrait shots
Hello, I hope this makes sense.
I would like to render characters in an natural environment such as Pine Grove or Bend Of The River. I like to be up close to the character and have the environment as a background that the character interacts with. Many landscape scenes are full of extra details that aren't going to be seen in the final image, making it difficult (choppy) to navigate around the scene and slowing render times.
What can I do to trim down the landscape outside of camera space to reduce memory usage? How do I simplify the environment to be more of a background than it's own feature piece? How do I make a larger total environment into a vignette of itself? (The same question asked three times because I don't know if I am making sense ).
What methods does the community use to create their backgrounds in portrait shots or smaller action renders?
Thank you!

One option is to render the scene and use it as a backdrop, through Window>Panes(Tabs)>Environment, but of course that locks your view.
You can also hide or delete things that aren't on camera, either manually or using Camera View Optimizer.
Or render the landscapes on their own from various angles. Then use those renders on a plane behind the figure(s).
