Creating Skin Details

Not quite sure where to post this question. I did some searching for answers but couldn't find anything.

If you create skin details like scars or tattoos, what do those count as? A shader? A skin material? I'm new to this stuff so I probably sound like a dolt. When I apply details like scars that I've created I just go to the surface options of the figure and just place the details on the images provided under "browse" by using photoshop.

I did purchase the tutorial on skin details that's available for sale.

And if I improve I'd like to maybe one day share the details so others can use them. So I'm not sure how the details would be shared file-wise, because it's not a new skin, it's just some fun little things like scars.

my only prior experience with making details is with Sims 4 skin details where it's packaged up just as a transparent PNG that can be applied to the sim in-game. I'm assuming Daz3D is much more complicated than this.

thank you! And if this has already been asked I'm sorry and will forever hold my peace.

You can make transparent .PNG skin details like that for use in DAZ Studio too. The most important step is figuring out which model you're going to use, like G8F or G8M, for example, since their UVs are different. The next is figuring out if you're going to set up materials for 3Delight or Iray. For 3Delight, you might look into LIE (layered image editor, from DAZ Studio) tutorials to see how to add and create presets. For Iray, you can also use LIE or create a Diffuse Overlay preset. This preset, however, is only visible in render.

But, you can always just put your detail .PNGs in a zip file and label it for use in Photoshop or GIMP. At least that would let others know that these aren't set up as a one-click preset. Advanced users will know how to apply them directly to the character in DAZ Studio themselves or incorporate it into a skin with an editing program, like Photoshop.
