Organising my files so i can find stuff

I have just recently reinstalled Daz after a good few years away from it and I've just spent an hour trying to find a new asset that I bought.  I eventually found that then I spent another hour trying to find the texture/shaders for it which weren't in the texture or shader folder in the content library.  I was finding I was going through multiple copies of folders in various locations.  It so confusing.  I there any way I can organize this so I can find things in a sensible structure?  I think i must have missed something when I installed.  I have my content assets etc on an external drive.

Thanks everyone smiley

  • Where were the shaders?

DS offers at least two options - one is to use categories, which you can easily adjust to suit your needs without moving any files. The other is to copy/paste in the Content Library pane which will create links in the enw locations, so again the original files stay put for updating and the link will always get the currently installed file (as long as an update doesn't move or remove it) with all metadata still applied.

I can't remember at the moment where I found it in the end and I've now got Daz in mid render so I can't look, but I remember thinking that they were in the right place and thinking I must be able to reorganise this somehow and you've given me the answer :)  Thank you :)

  • Render has just finished so I found the shaders in My Library/People/Genesis 8 Female/Accessories/~~Wings/Iray Materials .  I went looking first in Categories/Materials/Iray/Accessories - not there, so then I looked under Categories/People/Female expecting to find /Genesis 8 Female but logically nothing and there wasn't.

The practice where materials for whatever might have been found in "Runtime\Libraries\Materials\" came from the way Poser saved them, worked as long as you didn't have more than a hundred products and providing that the materials were saved in a folder that somehow made reference to the product...

Now most of the creators have saved the materials logically in a sub-folder under the product's main folder - No more mindless and time consuming searching through different folder-trees and countless folders to find the materials or add-ons for the product you were using - One of the reasons I got "tired" of using Poser.
