Which products in particular? Looking at today's new releases, I can't see what you're talking about.

Hmm, my dog takes exception to that. He eats neater that the sales page. And if he leaves morsels on the mat, I call him back and he looks at the floor and gets to work cleaning up the mess. He learns. The store seems incapable of it.

I checked a couple that I remember from the past few days, and they all look the same for me as before the new design.

I don't know that they necessarily look like cartoons, but I like MUCH less in the store these days than I used to. Daz used to mean quality. Now it looks like the other place...sell "whatever".

Thumbnails look exactly as they always have on my screen... cool

    Layout's a little different. A little.

Kalaa has blue contact lens in or toon blue irises and the moccassins are rather perfect looks. Some of the ad art is sort of spartan like you'd do in clothing catalogues and such.

The way DAZ 3D Store listing work for me and it's been so in every case: "realistic items" look so much "more" realistic on release day then they do looking back at them a year or more later.

  • They don't look any different to me. I wonder if they are defaulting to 256 colours or something on your screen?

Goanna's charcters are often on the stylized side.  Kalaa is like a caucasian version of Shizuka.  Anyway, the morph seems nice, but the eyes and skin will need a bit of fiddling/swapping out.

Her skin looks too oily in the promo pictures to me. However that should be fixable in the surface settings.

I don't know if I'd call it cartoony, but I have noticed that they seem to have softened and flattened out the contrast on the overall image.  Of course, the other part of the problem could be that a lot of the promo images have gone down in quality as the quantity has ramped up, especially with vendors who keep using the Iray denoiser at excessively high levels, and that there ARE more products being made with a toonier look... like most of marcius characrters, for example.

I very much like the character but I don't collect the more realistic characters as way more are published than I'll ever use. Too much skin oiliness when more skin details are absent though does make a render look more cartoonish.  (don't ask me what language was the prior contruction of my earliersentence before corrected frown)

Not every PA aims for Hyper realism.

Kalaa's morph is pretty realistic.  It's the materials that aren't.  One problem with her is that she has no Preferred Base, so that, in Smart Content, she matches no wardrobe items and only herself in materials.  The character needs to be edited in Scene Identification to set G8F as the Preferred Base for her to work with Smart Content.

Anyway, with a different skin she's no less realistic than most other characters.

Toon is fine if you're into that, hyperrealism I can understand, but plain bad promos I cannot understand. And I find myself thinking that pre Iray promos, both 3DL- and Poser renders now look far more convincing. I don't look much at the frontpage these days but just now I picked a random new product to have a look...
