Daz content goes missing and some not there

Well I managed to screw up the content database big time, as most of the smart content dissapeared

No matter what I tried I couldn't recover it

This has happened a number of times before, it's possibly due to when I render a number of frames.

When you render a single frame you can stop it from rendering OK, but when you render a number of frames, I can never find how to stop it, so the only way out is to kill Daz Studio, that's probably not a wise thing to do

Here is what I did to recover the situation

I tried resetting the database and re importing the Meta Data no good

I unistalled the content and reinstalled no good

Database may have got screwed up?

I removed all trace of Daz Studio from the PC even the daz 3d folder in the Windows documents folder and unistalled the database

Cleared out the My Daz Content folder in c: \users \public

"Kept the Downloaded Daz Content " this is where you have set it in the Daz install Manager

Left the Daz install folder as default c: \users \public

Reinstalled Daz Studio using the Install manager defaults, then all the content. took a while

To reduce the size of the database, I also decided not to install v3 v4 v5 v6 v7 and just installed the Genesis figures and content

All now working again OK

I noticed that Daz Studio has Daz content and Poser content

To keep other models etc , I had purchased from other places like Renderosity separate

This content was downloaded into it's own separate download folder

In the past this content showed up in the Daz Studio Content library,  when I unzipped them I placed this content in the same dir as Daz . I however hadn't realised something. some items wern't there?

This time I created 2 folders then unzipped all the Renderosity content into one of these in the normal way, making sure same content names were renamed if they were the same, like text files and makes a runtime library

I then unzipped all the Renderosity content again into "seperate folders" all in the second folder. No runtime library made

note im talking about the Content library here

I pointed the Poser side of the content folder to the first folder "normal unzip"

Why the seperate folders you ask

Some of the Renderosity content was ment for Daz Studio and some for Poser

I had previously added the content to both the Content Library, Daz folder and the Poser folder, but I had a number of items that didn't show up?

From the Content library, Daz content, I only added the content that was ment for Daz Studio, remember I had unzipped these into there own separate folders, so you can usually see which are Poser and which are Daz Studio

I've a feeling that the Renderosity Content that is installed in the Content library, Poser Dir may not show up if it's ment for Daz Studio

I have now recovered a lot of files that were lost ie the Renderosity Daz Studio ones

Not probably, definitely. One of the background tasks when shutting down DAZ|Studio is updating the content database. Tossing out this step is something you can only get away with so many times.

How are you normally stopping renders? I always tap the <esc> key; a dialog pops up (after a short delay if it's a heavy-duty render) asking if you're sure you want to stop the render.

Edit; just noticed you did a lot of uninstalling/reinstalling. A waste of time. The problem is most likely with the content database, not the content files.

    Hi SpottedKitty

    I've just tried this again

I've set 1000 frames to render ie an image series using Iray pressed render, and I get a dialog box, I then used this to stop the render and all is OK

I then set 1000 frames to render again ie an image series using Iray pressed render, this time no dialog box. so i cant stop it

    Pressed esc nothing

Pressed the x in the window top right nothing

I thought Daz may be taking all the available CPU  so I've limited them by 25% still no joy

I'm in bad land now, I've no way of stopping the render, except to crash out of daz, it would take 4 months to complete this using Iray

So it's going to be crash out time and hope

all in all, I wouldnt normally use iray for image series

As you look at your creations, it not unusual to want to stop the render make some adjustments and restart

The point of this thread is to advise users of the issue and what you might end up having to do to recover from it

In most cases reinstalling just the content does in fact work ok as i've done it a number of times

Crashing out of Daz studio is'nt advised at all, nor is crashing out of Windows, but when your faced with no way out you have no choice
