FBX morph syntax

I want to pick and choose which morphs I export in FBX.  I have seen a few videos on this and they do not reflect my reality.  I am able to export all head morphs by typing Head. with a period.  None of the 2 videos I've seen on this mention the period.  But that doesn't work for Hands.  Neither does it with no period.

I would like the syntax that allows me to export any specific pose morph like handspread for example.

I would also like to export groups of morphs like all the hand controls or all the pose controls.

And if possible, extra credit, how do you exclude a particular morph from a group.  (For example, all the head morphs except inner brow up/down).

And I'm assuming it's absolutely impossible to save all your favorites instead of hunting that big long list in export.

Oh and I'm checking morphs and figures boxes and changing from bake to export the stuff I want to export.  Any help would be very greatly appreciated.

  • The text you type is matched with the morph name (case sensitive), so if you enter "Head." it will export/bake/ignore any morph that contains "Head." it's nothing more to it then that, if you type the full name of the morph it will only export/bake/ignore that one.

I have not actually tried but it might be possible to do something like:

export "abc." (export everything containing abc)

ignore "def" (ignore any of the abc that contains def).

But that is juse a guess, you cannot do any more fancy filtering

Not sure what you mean with favorites, once you have a list of the ones you want to export you save it as a .csv file and you can reuse it next time.

Bake = The morph is baked into the exported mesh, so the morph is lost but the mesh is set to whatever the morph was

Export = The morph is exported and can be used in the FBX

Ignore = Do not export that morph

  • Thanks M-A.  I have some more clairity too and hope it helps.

I thought the staging list in the FBX export was a list of morphs and not selectable.  I thought I'd have to rewrite every morph I'd have to use.  That's why it was so bad that I couldn't get Hands. to work even though Head. did.  Daz seems to give you all these incredible features (in FREE software, I love daz) and then hide them as best they can.  I think they hired a UX guy from Zbrush.

In the FBX export options the bottom section is called Staging for reasons.  No controls.  No right click menu.  I thought it was just a list.  But if you hit Control C while a list item is selected you can copy it even though there's no right click submenu or Edit menu.  Then add a morph to the list, select it so it's editable and hit  Control V to paste  the morph you just copied.

You have to watch out cuz they duplicate morphs on that list.  But it gave me my dream list with no morphs I never use like cheek flex.
