Today I really HATE tdlmake, duplicate formulas and duplicate ID's
Hello,
I just want to complain in a difficult day.
I know DAZ is free, but sometimes I think why it's probably the most unefficient and buggy software I've ever handled. I'm working on kind of a graphic novel, and I found a way to make better lighting, so I have to change 15 scences of a sequence. The scenes have 3-5 genesis where I changed most of the textures. Opening every scene takes some minutes to upload and then have the duplicate formulas and ID's message. (I know it's because of a morph, but I don't want to spend some hours looking for the exact morphs and products that are causing it). Then I have to wait some other minutes for the scene to load, and finally, wait about 10-15 minutes for a bunch of tdlmake. And in the meanwhile, my pc becomes to so frozen that not even a simple wordpad can work ok. Then I make the light change (just adjust a shadow parameter) and when I render, the new annoying surprise is that Daz "forgot" to optimize the 100-200 images..... and the chrome shaders I used are rendered in plain white. (sometimes it happens with metal shaders, sometimes with latex, sometimes with velvet, and all the times with different products, so it's not the fault of an specific shader or vendor, it's definitely DAZ fault). Then I have to reload it again......and hope that this time everything loads ok, so that I don't have to waiste another 30-40 minutes of loading process.......
Will there be a time when Daz devolopers solve these bugs and make this software really efficient? Or is it just and utopia?
I work in a new dell laptop 8 g/ ram, i7 third gen processor, windows 8. Probably not the best graphic card.
Thanks for reading.

Duplicate Formulas was an old problem, and should be fixed by updating the content (if you have the original version of the Genesis Evolution Expressions you will need to uninstall that before installing the update as the location of the asset files chnaged, so they won't be overwritten - if you have updated your content and do have that set then it may be that all you need to do is delete the older files, which you should be able to locate by looking at the full errro message in the log file).
Duplicate IDs is a newer issue, but most content has been updated. There are a few morphs that haven't been, and some freebie content may not have been updated.
Both Duplicate ... issues are essentially content issues, though they were created by older (pre-4.5) versions of DS.
Thanks a lot for anwswering. I replaced my computer last year on august and installed DAZ 4.6 and all the content from the DIM, including all the updates. Does this bug was still in the DIM version of Genesis? And by the way, because of this, many scenes that I made on the old computer now don't load properly. The directories changed, and Daz looks for the content in the folder where it was installed in the old computer before DIM existed.
No, the DIM versions of Genesis should be well past the Duplicate Formulas stage and I think past the Duplicate IDs stage. Do you have freebies or store content from other stores? I would be interested to see the errors from the log - load Genesis, then go to Help>Troubleshooting>View Log, scroll down to the end and then back up to get to the start of loading Genesis - paste a copy of the messages relating to that here please.
Yes, textures for Genesis, clothes, props and scenery can cause TDLmake to run for a few minutes. Have patience because TDLmake is converting several hundered megabytes (if not gigabytes) worth of textures into TDL format for the 3Delight render. I assume that you have a fairly modern computer like a dual-core Pentium running at 2.8 GHz? Daz Studio will run a lot slower on a slower/older processor. Sorry, but I do not know what the Apple Mac equivalent is. Just my observation.
Good luck solving the issue with the duplicate formulas
Hello Richard,
The message I got is something like this.... it went on an on for too many pages, so I only pasted a little part. So maybe this bug was not solved. Thanks.

Hi, my computer is a very good one for a laptip, not the best, it has a i7 processor running from 2 -3.10GHz, 8gb RAM.
That's something I don't understand very well... why was DAZ designed in a format that needs to be converted by a bunch of tdlmakes? Can this change someday? I don't know, it's maybe just a wishful thought to make DAZ more efficient. I'm frustrated because after all the time I need to wait for loading then come unexpected errors in the render.... So waiting for duplicate formulas, duplicate ID's, tdlmakes, and after rendering have to reload again because it says "Error cannot render" or a shader appears plain white or a skin appears plain black , It took me like most of the weekend to improve a shadow parameter in abouy 15 images of the graphic novel I'm trying to make. The loading time was a lot longer than the render time. That was very annoying!
Thanks for answering.
The Render Engine, 3Delight, which is renderman compliant, do need images in this format, this has nothing to do with the software DAZ Studio really, but the render engine (which is really an industrial strength render engine).
I can say that on my old laptop (dualcore i7), tldmake is really noticable as the fans goes into highspeed, but on any of my desktops with 8 to 12 cores, I never ever notice tldmake happening.

That's an odd selection of messages if they are direct copies - they seem to be related to rigging rather than morphs, which was the original Duplicate Formula issue, and as quoted they are not referring to an asset file. Did you have custom rigged items, things you had rigged and not saved as an asset, in your scene?
If you find some other rendering engine you'd like outside of 3Delight you can remove the maketdl.dll from your plugins and you won't have to wait for the texture conversions but you wont be able to render in 3Delight anymore either. 3Delight is written, owned and licensed by 3Delight, not by Daz3d.
