Why is this happening?

Hi all. I have a question. I have Daz 4.12 pro and I have been using Daz for years. Just lately, for some unknown reason, I can load an environment, like a living room, with furniture, and it takes a long time to load. Then if I want to add people, I can try to add one character of Gen 8 female, with clothes and hair, and it will take about 30 minutes for the add display to go away, but the character never loads because Daz freezes and the cursor will not move. I have to push the power button on my pooter to shut it all down and restart it. Not good! The light on the front of the pooter that shows it is "at work" just stays on. It started doing this a while back but is getting worse. I can all but forget a second character. This happened to me years ago with an earlier build of Daz and through lots of questions asked, I was finally told that I may have a certain character morph that was a freebie at Rendo, to check and see if I had it. I did. They told me to delete it, I did. I immediately got my power back and characters were loading like they should. My problem is...I have years and years of stuff, but most all the characters I use are Gen 8 and the clothes and hairs are newer ones for Gen 8. I sure wish I knew what was causing this because I lose all want to create any scenes with people in them now. Can anyone maybe help me figure out why this is happening? Please?

One suggestion: Be sure you have a recent driver from nVidia for your GPU. If you recently installed the Windows 10 update it may have replaced your driver with one that is not as good from Microsoft.

    OMG that Win10 2004 update

my Nvidia driver I updated afterwards but it has hosed virtually everything else especially file explorer

  • Yeah this was a bad update, it reset all my file associations... grrr I thought they remembered to fix that after all the grief they caught about it last time it did that.  It also renabled all of the MS spyware crap that I had disabled.  Really thinking about switching over to Windows AME at this point.

Windows 10 Build 2004 made my new AMD Rysen 9 2700 PC start to crawl too, particularly with regards to using the File Explorer. I'm guessing apps use of Windows 10 file system API is similarly hampered. Note that has nothing to do with nVidia drivers; once launch from the file system and residing in RAM is complete, the extreme slow down either isn't there at all or much less noticable.

I tried to find an updated driver for my Nvida. I downloadedabout three and all said it could not install because it was not the right driver. I do not know what to look for. I had to install Java into my explorer before it would let any drivers from Nvida download. Then the Java secutiry system would not allow any drivers to be downloaded from Nvida. So I am running in circles getting nowhere! I am ready to just give up and wait it out for renders. I did not mention that over half of the scenes I try to render, I get a fatal error and Daz closes itself. I lose the entire scene because if Itry to save it before rendering it, the pooter will freeze up and I lose it anyway. Can anyone maybe provide me with a way to get a driver update? The one I was trying to get was a July 2020 update. I have tried everything and still can not get it.

ok...my pooter info says my Nvida driver is up to date . All other drivers are also. No problems have been reported to the system. It is working properly. So now what?

Believe it's a Windows 10 update issue.  If you update Win10 prior to issue.  Last week windows update my system, took approx an hour *Ugh*, restart numerous times.  I was having same issues, what normally loads fast, took awhile.  So, I'd restart comp to see if it helped.  Unfortunately no.  I was able to use DS, but loading content took forever.  Since then my comp updates Win10 2 more times, Nvidia updates day after 2nd Win10 update, now DS is working normal again.  I've noticed with every Win10 update, DS malfunctions and Realtek audio disappears.  .    .

Since you had a similar issue in the past and it was traced back to a character freebie, you should try to remember when it started happening again. If you can make a rough estimate of when you think the issues started again you can look back at your purchase history around that time (and see if you can remember if you installed any freebies during that time). You can uninstall your purchases and freebies downloaded from that time and see if that helps. If it does help you know that it's one of the things you uninstalled and you can then install them one at a time to find out which one is the culprit (assuming it's a product or a freebie that is causing it again).

Truly up to you...... My Win10 automatically updates, I update for security reasons.  All I know is, it was a massive update, many users state took hours to complete.  I thought it was gonna be another quick one, an hour goes by, if I remember it was still at 70% complete.  Thought update was stuck, after restarting several times in the process, over an hour later, update final completes.  Wow !!  So, if you do decide to update, make sure you don't need desktop for awhile, or have a laptop.
