Atmospheric camera effects

Hey, I bought the atmospheric camera effect pack last night .. Trying to get the 'god rays' effect but I'm not understanding what is meant by 'flagging' the light.

Sure I get why it needs to be flagged but the user guide says to type 'fog light' into the lights category field parameter?? .. Well I've looked all over and I have no idea what , or where a specific category parameter is. Can someone please tell me where this is?

There's certainly no such area on the parameter tab.

Many thanks

scott, are you using the Easy Volume Camera? That part of the Atmospheric Camera Effects is new (a free added bonus from the vendor, Age of Armour (AOA)). The Easy Volume Camera is meant to work with the AOA Advanced Lights that are also sold in the DAZ store. I think the part of the Easy Volume Camera documentation you are looking at is referring to a field in the Advanced Lights parameters, not a field in the camera parameters.

There is a long thread on the subject of the Easy Volume Camera here. that you might find interesting, too.

Edit: I've added screen shots of an Advanced Spot Light set to foglight and the Easy Volume Camera set to use at that light.

I see. So doing the effects is actually not possible without the AoA lights? Specifically the 'god rays' effect. Bit disappointing, I hope those lights don't cost a lot.

Thanks for showing this anyways, at least now I can stop searching for something that's not there.

You can still use the original volume camera without the Advanced Lights. The Easy Volume camera is just newer and faster to go along with the extra capabilities that are provided by the Advanced Lights. The link I gave you is to the Advanced Lights bundle, but you could buy just the Advanced Spot Light or Advanced Distant light by itself. I suggest you post some questions in that other thread I gave you a link to. I think AoA will see your post there and be able to give you the best advice.

And of course if the Atmospheric Effects Cameras don't give you the capability you are looking for, you can return them to the store within 30 days of purchase for a full refund.

It is possible to have the volume effects without the AoA lights, although it's not as efficient and will probably take longer to render. You can set it to flag lights based on intensity, which the default is 99%. Then set the intensity of any lights you can to emit the volume effect to 99%, and render away.

It's a workaround, but I definitely recommend getting the AoA advanced light bundle when you can, the ambient light especially is amazing.

Okay, now I see .. about the easy camera stuff. Fair enough .. I guess I'll just have to buy the lights, but I will try the work around first. I've just spent so much lately on DAZ I'm a bit miffed that the one effect I bought it for it really needs yet another product to work best.

Anyways, thanks for your input I do very much appreciate it.

Please note it's NOT just 99% ... you can set the 'flagged' value to anything. Just be sure you match that Intensity of any lights (AoA or 'normal') you wish to show volumetric effects to the specified value. 99% was chosen, IIRC, as a default as it is a) different from the DS default of 100% for lights and b) would cause almost no perceptible difference to the lighting ig used unchanged.

Yep, I understand. Well I just bought the lights ... my bank will spank me later no doubt.

Trying to get this ray effect and failing miserly .. is there a Video tutorial on how to do this?? The user manual is not at all clear about how you are meant to use the lights ... just points out that you can use them to create this effect. Driving me nuts! Really have tried to follow the instructions .. and sure I have some light ... but it's obnoxious foggy stuff that looks awful.

Is there any video for this stuff?
