Conforming Garment Shirt Sleeve Distortion Horror

Hi. I've made a short sleeved shirt in MD and used the Daz transfer utility which kind of works all right if the figure bends his torso but when he lifts an arm the result is absolutely repulsive.

I've tried weight mapping but that just gives it a new kind of horror.

I've tried refitting the shirt in MD with the avatar's arms up and it looks fine in MD but the sleeves explode in Daz.

I've included pics of the pre weight mapped horror and the post weight mapped horror.

Does anyone have a solution?

    1. Model the shirt to the default load position of the figure. ["A" for G8]

    2. The shirt must load exactly where it is to be on the figure in said position. Run the transfer utility to make the clothing. Then select the clothing item and save it.

    3. Then onto the wonderful world of making pJCMs. JCMs are what cause the issues you are seeing. To deal with those entering the clothing, the clothing needs to have its own set of morphs bearing exactly the same name so when the figure's arms are raised causing its JCMs to be activated, it will also dial in your new pJCMs in the clothing.

  • Thanks very much. I'd never heard of JCMs until now. I'll do some research and give it a try.

    You're welcome.

Joint control morphs come into play when the figure's joints do. For example with long sleeves and slacks/skirts.

There is one product in the store for helping serious content creators, https://www.daz3d.com/pjcm-poses--for-clothing-creators-for-genesis-8

It does not do the work of making the morphs. These are poses which will trigger various JCMs - and then one has to make the corrections in the clothing.

One can make one's own set of poses - one way or the other it is a good idea to have some.

  • Thanks again, Catherine.

I noticed something else of Dark Design's when sussing out the pJCMs product...... A video tute called Marvelous Designer Redux.

I think I need both of them and each one costs about the same as a small packet of cigarettes here in Australia - even allowing for the exchange rate!

BTW - your Auto-fit Clones work REALLY WELL. Seriously. They're great.

  • ;-) Thank you.

I checked out his video promo for MD Redux and yes, that looks to be a must have for making D/S clothing using MD. I noticed that these pJCMs can even be made using MD.

There are always sales happening at Daz3D.com so if one needs or wants to, putting them into the wishlist saves time hunting for them later [esp. if there's a flash sale on]. Some of various PAs' products are landing in the PC+ for a day or the flash sale page now and then. Not all participate but I like to be optimistic.

I have the MD redux tutorial and from memory it does not go into details on how to set these up in MD.  It mentions it in passing but kind of glosses over the specifics.  So you may have to work it out yourself.

It has been a while since i watched it- but from memory it goes through the steps of setting up pJCMs and other morphs in general terms, using other software (i think Zbrush), but does not do a comprehensive walk through of process via MD.  I mentioned this in the other thread about the pJCM product.

Another tutorial set - Esha's content creation video series - talks about pJCMs too.  I cant remember whether she created the morphs in MD or Zbrush either (again i watched this a while ago).

Anyway, I think the pJCM pose product is good to have because it has the set poses ready to go, but i dont know if i would recommend the relevant sections of those tutorials if you want to use MD specifically. They are probably each good to have a general idea of the process though.

I also have the MD Redux tutorial, and was disappointed in it, for the reasons that lilweep mentioned. In general, I am a big fan of Dark Edge Design tutorials, and his first MD one was perfect for me. But for creating JCMs in MD, the Redux misses the mark for me. It relies too much on Zbrush techniques, and I don't have Zbrush.
