    Thanks for the imput!

Part of the money for it is financed by my boss, who doesn’t know about computers, but is strictly a Mac fanatic. My hands are not entirely tied, but we argued a lot and I do feel kinda conditioned to go for a Mac.
Also, my current PC failed since the first year I bought it and it’s been a pain since 2010. I am willing to try the Mac wonders I hear everywhere. lol

    4. You can run windows on it. This might seem silly... but you can boot into OSX or Windows if you buy yourself a copy of Windows. But then... there is 'hackintosh' which is a reskinning of Linux I think made to run OSX software...

Wait, I missed this. So I can run Windows on a Mac??
    Sounds like something I want!

I've always owned a Mac at home, and always had to use a PC at work. I would never buy a PC. I've never had a problem with a Mac. I've never had to have one fixed or serviced. I've never had to call Apple with a question. I've never had one virus. The Mac has never chrashed. The Mac freezes, maybe once a year. Almost all the software I use has a Mac version. It's an absolute pleasure using a Mac. It's a beautiful machine, and a beautiful interface. If I had to make a choice between a Mac, and a PC that was twice as fast and half the price, I would, without question, buy the Mac.

A little overview of the many ways to run Windows on a mac: http://www.macworld.com/article/1164817/the_best_way_to_run_windows_on_your_mac.html

keep in mind if you use the boot camp option; which IMHO is the fastest and most stable method of using Windows on the mac (since it's not virtualizing anything, you are booting straight into windows and running it native) you are limited as to which version of Windows will allowed to be installed on your computer depending on your current Mac OS (which can't be downgraded past any version that your computer came boxed with)

With Leopard (OS 10.7), Snow Leopard (OS 10.8) or Mavericks (OS 10.9) you may only install Windows 7 or 8 (any version 32/64 bit) unless you have a previous version of windows grandfathered in from a previous install (e.g. you had Vista home or XP installed with a mac that shipped with OS 10.6 and you did those installs on OS 10.6). If you try to install Vista or XP on a new computer with boot camp the installer will stop and prevent you from using it.

Hellboy, are you planning on rendering on this or just doing 2d graphics like Photoshop?

Everything. Rendering too. This would be the only machine I'd had for everything.

Then you really, really want the i7 of those two computers. Unless you really prefer rendering significantly slower, especially once Lux gets their OpenCL rendering working better, but even without Lux.

This is not about Windows versus Macs but the relative power of the machines. The Mac hardware specs you showed are not even in the same League as the Windows machine.

Note this is the iMac that is the closest to the equivalent of the Windows Machine you showed. It is a 27"

That is exactly what I needed to know, Thank you!

Thanks for bothering but just in case, how much of a difference would I expect comparing the Mac with my current old machine?

Pentium Dual Core CPU E5400 2.70 GHZ
    Intel G45/G43 Express Chipset
    12 RAM

The 27 Mac image is very helpful too. Thank you!

The 27 Mac image is very helpful too. Thank you!The iMac you listed "should" be roughly twice as fast as the old machine and as much as 4 times as fast as that machine rendering.

The Windows machine will be no less than 3 times as fast, and 4 times as fast is probable, with render speeds 6-12 times as fast as your old machine. (Like I said that 21" iMac, spec wise, is not in the same league.)

The iMac I posted will likely be 3 times as fast as your old machine, maybe 3.5 times as fast, render speeds being close to the Windows machine but probably in the 5-10 times as fast as your old machine for render time.

The reason for the difference between normal use and Render use is you (The operator) are no faster than you were with the old computer :) so you won't be fully taking advantage of all those extra threads. If that makes sense.
