DAZ Studio will not start (Win 7 - 64 bit)
Last week my installation of DAZ Studio 4.6.3.52 64 bit stopped working. I also noticed problems with my firewall so I did a full AVG scan which found and eradicated several malware. I also scanned with MalwareBytes paid edition which found nothing else. DAZ Studio still didn't work.
I re-installed studio without uninstalling first and same results. The activity indicator spins for about 1.5 sec during which time DAZStudio.exe shows up on the Windows Task Manager Processes list for the same amount of time. Interestingly, the memory used varies dramatically each time I click the Studio icon??? This varies from as little as 100 K to over 19,000 K.
Next I did a clean install of DAZ Studio 32 bit which gives the same results.
Any assistance on this will be greatly appreciated.

Go to C:\Users\You\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio 4 (AppData is a hidden folder, you will need to enable the display of hidden files and folders in the Folder Options applet, in the View tab). Open the log.txt file, scroll to the end and see what DS says it did last (if you could post the last block of text here).

I looked at several iterations and it always crashes right after attempting to load the Polygon Group Editor. This was the only group that had 2 instances of "Creating Managers" data.
|Since my initial post I've uninstalled both the 64 bit and 32 bit versions and cleaned and compacted the registry with jv16 Poser Tools. Should I delete this data from Roaming/DAZ 3D/... down?
Thanks again,
Don...
For me the log then lists loading a few more help files, then goes on to scanning the content directories and then enumerates the video card capabilities:

Supported OpenGL extensions:
Allowing for the fact that the log may be slightly behind the code at the point of the crash and that it's very close to checking the video hardware that would be my prime suspect. Are you now using a different driver version for your graphics card, compared to last week? What do you have?
I believe I did recently update the video driver using one of the "Driver Updater" programs. I'll do it again through AMD and see what happens.
Thanks and I'll let you know.

Hi.
I also recently had a problem of DAZ Studio not wanted to start (and Richard and some others helped me a lot).
How did I solved it? Well there was something corrupted in the application data of DS 4.6, but I could not see what it was.
After a while, I was so despaired that I went for the "hard" method.
1. I zipped "C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4" in order to have a back up if something went wrong (well things were already wrong but could be worse).
2. I deleted the Studio4 FOLDER in C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\
3. I restarted DAZ Studio.
4. AND I was so happy to see that DS 4.6 recreates from scratch the full roaming folder itself and completely restarted.
This solved my problem. The only drawback is that everything resart as if DS4.6 was completely new, meaning that you will lose all the interface customisations, well the "user" customisations.
I tried this several times, it seems you can delete the Studio 4 from the roaming as often as you want, DS 4.6 automatically recreates it.
For some reason my download from the ATI Website kept crashing. However, I finally got the correct driver for my ATI 5800 Video Card. However, after installing it, and re-installing DAZ 64 and it's basic files it still stops loading at the same line: Reading help file C:/Program Files/DAZ 3D/DAZStudio4/docs/Plugins/PolygonGroupEditor/PolygonGroupEditor.dsx.
What is/are the next line(s) in your code?
Thans and warm regards,
Don...
Hi Kadix and thanks for the Tip,
You are correct regarding a Rebuild of the Studio4 folder. In my case the newly created folder contained only the log.txt file and an empty temp folder. However, I still have the same problem ;(
Warm regards,
Don...
Well, that isn't useless information - it at least confirms that DS isn't getting as far as loading the layout as I think it would then create the .dsx files for that. It also can't be getting as far as trying to load any auto-load scene. It could be that there's a corrupt file, such as the help .dsx files (did you make sure they had been removed when you uninstalled?) or it could be that something in the scan of content directories is blocking it (those are stored in the registry, so would not have been affected by the uninstall or the deletion of the AppData folder). I wonder if AVG could have changed the settings for one of your content folders, or perhaps changed a registry setting, that may be causing this - does it produce, and do you have, an exact log of what it did?
Rename your docs folder in C:/Program Files/DAZ 3D/DAZStudio4 to something else ex : docsx then start Studio
If it starts then you just have a corrupt file. If not, the problem is elsewhere
Hi Takeo,
That didn't change anything but thanks for the tip.
Warm regards,
Don...
Richard,
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check and let you know what I find.
Warm regards,
Don…
Howdy Folks,
Well, I finally gave up and erased every mention of DAZ from all hard drives (except for my installers) and started over. "Most" everything seems OK.
Thanks to all, especially Richard, who helped me troubleshoot my problem.
Warm regards,
Don...
